Who is the Green Lantern of Sector 2814 at present? Are there multiple? If so, do other sectors have multiple? Or is 2814 just messy?
Okay there are a few BronzeRealms retcons and clarifications to Green Lantern lore I should start with.
First, the Green Lantern Corps has a specific territory of space that they hold jurisdiction over. It is not the entire universe, not even the entire known universe. Multiple galaxies. Huge. Still millions of inhabited star systems per Lantern. Just not... Everything. In fact, 2814 is on the outskirts of GL territory, and parts of the Milky Way Galaxy are not recognized as under Oan authority.
There are 7560 total current Ring-wielding Green Lanterns officially recognized by the Corps.
3600 Sectors, not including Sector Zero (Oa itself) or the Far Sectors. Each numbered Sector has 2 Lanterns assigned to it (7200). 48 Lanterns are assigned to Sector Zero, to ensure the protection of Oa itself and the Central Battery. 36 Lanterns are assigned to the Far Sectors, a territory that is sparsely populated, but vast in scale and largely uncharted in parts.
180 Lanterns are assigned to the Honor Guard, to be sent wherever they're needed across Oan space. 60 Lanterns are assigned to the Alpha Guard, who investigate potential misconduct within the Corps itself.
24 Lanterns are assigned to the Science Corps, who study the Emotional Spectrum and develop new techniques and new technologies for Lanterns everywhere to utilize. 6 Lanterns are stationed on Oa as teachers to train all new recruits who are summoned by their Rings to learn what the Corps is and how to use their new powers. 4 Lanterns are Clarissi, the clerks, who help collect the records of everything the Corps encounters for future Lanterns to refer back to.
2 Lanterns are assigned to EARTH SPECIFICALLY.
Earth is a fucking nightmare for the Corps. Do you have any idea how many universe-shattering super-beings the average planet in the universe produces? Zero, that's how goddamn many. None. What the fuck is wrong with this one little rock that there seems to be a new multiversal incursion or timestream disruption every few MONTHS, and that's just the ones the Corps hears about! And on top of that, humans, a generally very stupid and primitive species, ocassionally will randomly shit out something like AMAZO, who can singlehandedly curb-stomp the ENTIRE CORPS and casually teleport Oa itself into Hell.
So yes, separate from the 2 Lanterns of Sector 2814, and separate from the Honor Guard which almost perpetually has someone assigned on a mission near earth, separate from the Science Corps who also usually have someone in the neghborhood studying whatever new bullshit the humans discovered last year... earth also just gets 2 full-time dedicated Lanterns all on its own.
So to answer your question, at current time the Green Lanterns of Earth are Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz. The Green Lanterns of Sector 2814 are John Diggle and the Steam Lantern from Counter-Earth. Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, and John Stewart are on the Honor Guard.
Not in that 7560, but still mostly around earth, Kyle Rayner is the White Lantern. Alan Scott used to go by Green Lantern but he never had a Lantern Ring, he had the Starheart, one of the Makluan Ten Rings, before it was taken from him by Temugin Khan. Alan Scott's daughter Jennie Hayden has biologically inherent Lantern-like powers thanks to circumstances around her conception and birth involving the Starheart. And Keli Quintela, the Teen Lantern, created her own unauthorized Lantern Gauntlets and Power Battery.
#BronzeRealms#green lantern corps#green lantern#dc comics#dc universe#Makluan Ten Rings#John Diggle is John Stewart's cousin#starheart#earth is a deathworld#apparently that's a popular enough tag to autofill when I was trying to type#earth is weird#the other one still applies because seriously wtf how many times can 1 planet almost destroy the universe#and then save it#and then save it a few more times when other stuff threatens it

So there's a blanddcheadcanons post that says that "Kara is the mortal avatar of Rao" and I really don't like it, especially in the context of SG 3x04 (The Faithful). At best, as was pointed out to me by a friend with whom I discussed this post, the House of El is likely blessed and somewhat sponsored by Rao, which probably doesn't do much but produce Krypton's greatest heroes, given what the word "El" **means** in Kryptonian. I'm interested in your thoughts on this (pls post your answer).
I reject the headcannon solely because if it were true it would mean Coville was right and I fucking hate that bitch.
In all seriousness, though, this is an idea I've seen a lot and I'm not a huge fan of. I don't know much about Raoism beyond what appears in the show and that which can be inferred off of the show. One thing I would point out though is that El in Kryptonian (while obviously being intended to mean God by the original comic writers) can mean Sun or Stars, and since the Kryptonians in the show are, as far as I can tell, monotheistic, and worshipped only one particular star, the El family is not necessarily named God. It would, however, signify their enormous prestige on Krypton and contribute to the famous El pride (or rather, arrogance). I’m not sure it would necessarily have to mean anything more than that-- that the Els are a respected house who have produced a variety of successful politicians, civil servants, and scientists. And (this time reaching a little bit) that they are perhaps so old and respected that their house name was once a title.
There is a certain allure to the theory, for sure. Kara is a paragon character. She always, always does what she thinks is right, regardless of the cost, personal or global, and regardless of what other people might think of it. She has a very direct moral compass, and there are only a handful of times when she doesn’t follow it, all of which involve saving Lena. Ship who you want, but it is notable that Kara routinely prioritzes Lena’s life over that of others given the rarity of that happening otherwise. She never even considered breaking Rick Thompson’s father out of prison when he kidnapped Alex, and all he’d committed was bank robbery. Kara has lines she does not cross (though murder is clearly not one of them). She is a character that has seen some of the worst that sentient life is capable of, has seen more death and suffering than most people could imagine, and she came out of it with an all-encompassing desire to protect others. She lives to give people hope. Plus, the humor of having Kara-- the one person most offended by the idea of being an Avatar of Rao-- turn out to be an Avatar of Rao is great.
But, I would also say that having Kara want to do good because she is the avatar of a benevolent god is reductive and not particularly true to her character. It is true that helping and protecting people is a large part of the core of who Kara is. But there is a difference between altruism and the self-destructive, bordering of suicidal desperation to save absolutely everyone that Kara practices. And to anyone who doubts the suicidal bit, I direct you to the season 1 finale where Kara literally goes on a goodbye tour because she thinks if she goes out to fight Non she’ll die. She still goes because she has hope, but that hope is that she can at least save Earth with her life. She doesn’t fight because she is certain in the ultimate victory of good and justice. She does it because she more afraid to lose another family than she is to die. Kara doesn’t become Supergirl and risk her own life because she believes in good, she does it because she can’t stand to listen to people suffer-- because she has suffered. To use Alex’s words in 1x13 “You fight everyday to keep people from struggling like you have.” Notably also in 1x13, Kara wakes up from the Black Mercy and her first words are “Who did this to me?” and then she goes after Non in what could arguably be described as a homicidal rage-- a rage that is fueled entirely for personal reasons, not the greater good of Earth (though that comes as an added benefit), which is.... not very befitting the avatar of a benevolent god.
A major part of season 1 is Kara dealing with grief and rage. She nearly breaks a guy's arm in episode 6 because he screamed at her for damaging his car, to hell with the children he'd almost hit with it. In season 3's Midvale flashbacks we see her first put both hands through a lunch table, then attack Jake when she suspects him for Kenny's death. She gets better at controlling it as the seasons progress, but during Crisis she very nearly melts Lex. Also not particularly godly of her.
Then there is the fact that so much of who Kara is is shaped by fear: fear of the government, fear of humanity, fear of abandonment, and fear of herself. In her civilian life, Kara is, for the most part, unnoticeable. She's polite, soft-spoken, doesn't wear a lot of bold colors or styles, and is often a pushover. As shown by her encounter with Red Kryptonite, Kara would not dress or speak the same way to people without the pressure of hiding her identity (though much of her dialogue is purely the loss of her "don't be an asshole" filter, some of it is stuff she had every right to say before and just didn't). I have always found that episode to be very interesting purely for the fact that Kara doesn't actually seem to be seeking harm on others so much as seeking their attention. Her argument with Alex is almost entirely about how much she hates having to hide and pretend to be less than she is. Kara drops Cat off the balcony and then catches her. She attacks the police when they point weapons at her but doesn't kill or even hurt them that badly, instead of destroying the car they're using as shelter. Red-K removed her inhibitions, made her angrier, yes, but if her goal was to actually hurt people, she could have done so-- would have done so, and with great ease. She goes to a public bar and uses super strength to smash bottles by flicking peanuts. Why do that at a crowded bar? Why not just flick potato chips at the windows in her own apartment?
This is Kara at her absolute worst-- but does she seek out the DEO agents who shot her out of the sky? Does she go after Maxwell Lord or Non? No. She tries to make people pay attention to her. Her most shameful and hideous desire is for people to give her respect. (Admittedly, respect gained through fear, but still.). Kara's a nice person-- much, much nicer than average-- but a lot of that "nice" is just her avoiding conflict to avoid attention.
Kara is a good person. Kara inspires people. But that is because Kara gets up every day and chooses to be good and to inspire. It's one of the reasons I enjoy Non as a villain so much-- he and Astra are Kara's narrative foils. They also remember Krypton and grieve its loss. They also were trapped in the Phantom Zone. But where Kara had the Danvers to convince her that some good people existed and would risk themselves just to help others, Non and Astra had Alura sentencing them to eternal suffering rather than helping them save their planet (through the means they thought necessary) and then landed on Earth and found it headed on the same path as the planet they'd just lost. Kara had people to help her grieve. Non and Astra were surrounded by misery. They lost hope. Kara discovered it.
Kara is the Paragon of Hope because she has been hopeless. Because she has suffered so much, seen so much, and because she chooses to believe in a better future. She didn't have hope her first time in the Phantom Zone. She didn't even have hope for a while on earth. From what we can gather, Kara's choice to start actually believing in the future was a gradual shift that occurred sometime after Kenny's death and has lasted her ever since. For Kara, hope is learned. She chose to hope and she won't let it go, and to assign that incredible victory off to her being a God is an insult to her growth and to her character.
Now I personally thought “The Faithful” handled this concept very well. 3x04 is one of my favorite episodes of television in general, let alone in Supergirl. Season 3 is my second favorite season, and that says a lot for its good episodes when the bad of season 3 is so, so very bad (To say nothing of the episode to episode production value, we have the waste of Argo, Mon El’s return as obviously he’s grown he has a beard Mon El, and whatever the hell was going on with Kryptonian genetic engineering eclipse causing witches). To this day I don’t know why Kara had magic dreams. The show did nothing to explain it and I can’t imagine up a reason.
But “The Faithful” works because it highlights the whole paragon part of who Kara is. When you realize that every person in the room of Coville’s cult is a person she has personally saved-- that hits hard. Especially since only a fraction of the people she’s saved would ever set foot inside that building with the totally not-creepy, entirely wholesome way they deliver the invitations. (“Your daughter is special. She has been chosen. As have you.”) It works because it focuses on how the average human must view Kara, the ones who don’t see her argue with her sister over potstickers and crush her phone when she gets mad. It works because of how desperately hard Kara tries to be a human. It works because the writers know that we, the audience, do not see Kara as anything but a regular person with irregular abilities: a kind and remarkably devoted person, but not a god.
#I didnt discuss it above. but Kara gets REALLY mad about Covilles whole deal#I really love watching her reaction to kryptonian artifacts#girl goes suspicion first and anger second#and it highlights her humanity#even as it puts her on a pedastal#Kara saved all these people but she will still tear her holy book from your hands#and scream at you for daring to quote it#Supergirl 3x04#Supergirl 1x13#Supergirl 1x20#Supergirl#Kara Danvers#Supergirl meta#Kara Zor el#Raoism

Some things about Space Life (part 3)
In "Semiotics" Beagle5 is found in the Triangulum Galaxy cataloged as Messier 33.
Here AL identifies plant life forms. Being able to identify forms of life from a distance may not be so unlikely.
A new tool invented by a group of researchers from the University of Bern makes it possible to take a first, important step forward in this direction. It is a brightness detector able to recognize when the light that is passing through it has been reflected by an organic molecule; it does this by exploiting a unique property of living matter called chirality. The study describing the experiment was published in Astronomy & Astrophysics.
Semiotics is a tribute to Semiosis. Semiosis is a 2018 science fiction novel by American writer and translator Sue Burke. Semiosis is about colonists starting a new life on the planet Pax and their alliances with sentient indigenous plant species. The title of the book refers to semiosis, a communicative process using signs.
In "Semiotics" and in "Just plants" there is a reflection on alien life, on the forms it could take and how it could evolve. If we only take into consideration how many forms life has taken on planet Earth, we can get an idea of how far it could be from the classic alien with two eyes, mouth, two arms and two legs.
Could intelligence and consciousness evolve from beings similar to terrestrial plants? What do we know about our plants? Do they have a communication system? If so, how does it work?
To talk about communication we must start by asking ourselves: can plants respond on a sensorial level to an external event in a period of time compatible with that necessary to formalize a communication system? Between cause and effect, therefore between sender and recipient, can a relationship be defined such as to validate a form of bidirectional information transfer?
A first answer can be obtained by observing Mimosa Pudica, a plant belonging to the Mimosaceae family that has this bizarre behavior: if you touch it, it retracts its leaves in real time.
There are also the classic carnivorous plants which in another way and through their spectacular snap mechanism, make us assume that at least one channel model on the basis of which to establish any communication may exist and act on a time scale proportionate to ours.
In fact, if we think about it, these plants seem more alive than others because of this compatibility in cause-effect relationships.
Let it be clear that we are not talking about a behavior similar to that of any brain in the animal world, also because as we know they are not provided even at the level of a single neuron. That is, plants certainly don't think and don't feel, or at least they don't do it as we understand it.
However, the thing that brings us together and that makes the discussion more interesting is that even in that realm the mechanism of action potentials is exploited, which we can describe in a very superficial way as those signals of stimulation and the birth of a behavior.
Several studies have been conducted in this regard through which, for example, an answer has been given to phenomena such as those that see some plants connect some fringes of their roots in the subsoil, inducing similar plants to arrange themselves so as to grow by wrapping in a circle a plant not of the same species to stop its growth.
These are phenomena that would suggest that a communication system is present.
The action potentials I was talking about are obviously different from those generated by the neurons of our brain, since if the latter are the consequence of an electro-chemical process produced by the sodium-potassium pump, that of the plants instead arose from the movement of ions of calcium, potassium and chloride as well as differing because they are much slower than ours (a few tens of milliseconds instead of a few seconds of the latter, for example in the case of the carnivorous plant we are on the order of 3 seconds).
A good source for deepening the mechanism of the carnivorous plant and its electrophysiological mechanisms can be found in the publication Active movements in plants: Mechanism of trap closure by Dionaea muscipula Ellis. where the due considerations are also made on the fact that the trap does not close by muscular action (since it does not have any) but by rapid osmotic change.
We have come to talk about this because it is clear that although different, at least an internal communication mechanism exists, so much so that there is an entire field of study called plant electrophysiology.
It is interesting, for example, that a recent article in Nature describes the discovery of a propagation of the electric potential along a plant in response to lesions on a leaf.
But is there any experiment that can concretely highlight a communication between plants?
Yes, many, and to close the circle, I report this presentation by Greg Gage, a well-known neuroscientist who has dedicated himself to the more didactic aspect of this science with the aim of making it known even to the little ones in schools around the world.
In his experiment, Greg connects the two plants I mentioned initially through a simple bi-amplifier and stimulating them, makes them interact through that artificial communication channel thanks to which it is also possible to have fun by making some more precise measurements.
Yes, according to a recent Swedish study, plants have an underground communication system!
Electrochemical signals are sent and received through the roots, so they can communicate with each other about what is happening in their surroundings.
A kind of cooperation is created between the plants, the neighbors warn the others of the dangers and the latter react by activating their own defense system.
Indeed, according to some studies, it is said that they are able to understand if the neighboring plant is of the same species or if they have family ties. In short, the trees are interconnected like a vast internet network! According to some experiments they suffer if treated badly, react to touch, remember past stimuli and stresses.
Plants are more complex organisms than they seem!
Still in "Semiotics" AL quote the famous phrase of the Apollo 13 astronauts.
"Houston, we have a problem" is a popular but erroneous quotation from the radio communications between the Apollo 13 astronaut Jack Swigert and the NASA Mission Control Center ("Houston") during the Apollo 13 spaceflight in 1970, as the astronauts communicated their discovery of the explosion that crippled their spacecraft.
The words actually spoken, initially by Jack Swigert, were "Okay, Houston, we've had a problem here". After being prompted to repeat the transmission by CAPCOM Jack R. Lousma, Jim Lovell responded, "Ah, Houston, we've had a problem."
Since then, the erroneous phrase "Houston, we have a problem" has become popular, being used to account, informally, the emergence of an unforeseen problem, often with a sense of ironic understatement.
"Just plants" takes inspiration from Yuval Noah Harari’s book: “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind”, wherein he deconstructs the prevailing narrative of the Agricultural Revolution as history’s biggest fraud:
"Scholars once proclaimed that the agricultural revolution was a great leap forward for humanity. They told a tale of progress fuelled by human brain power. Evolution gradually produced ever more intelligent people. Eventually, people were so smart that they were able to decipher nature’s secrets, enabling them to tame sheep and cultivate wheat. As soon as this happened, they cheerfully abandoned the grueling, dangerous, and often spartan life of hunter-gatherers, settling down to enjoy the pleasant, satiated life of farmers.
"That tale is a fantasy. There is no evidence that people became more intelligent with time. Foragers knew the secrets of nature long before the Agricultural Revolution, since their survival depended on an intimate knowledge of the animals they hunted and the plants they gathered. Rather than heralding a new era of easy living, the Agricultural Revolution left farmers with lives generally more difficult and less satisfying than those of foragers. Hunter-gatherers spent their time in more stimulating and varied ways, and were less in danger of starvation and disease. The Agricultural Revolution certainly enlarged the sum total of food at the disposal of humankind, but the extra food did not translate into a better diet or more leisure. Rather, it translated into population explosions and pampered elites. The average farmer worked harder than the average forager, and got a worse diet in return. The Agricultural Revolution was history’s biggest fraud.
"Who was responsible? Neither kings, nor priests, nor merchants. The culprits were a handful of plant species, including wheat, rice and potatoes. These plants domesticated Homo sapiens, rather than vice versa."
"Think for a moment about the Agricultural Revolution from the viewpoint of wheat. Ten thousand years ago wheat was just a wild grass, one of many, confined to a small range in the Middle East. Suddenly, within just a few short millennia, it was growing all over the world. According to the basic evolutionary criteria of survival and reproduction, wheat has become one of the most successful plants in the history of the earth. In areas such as the Great Plains of North America, where not a single wheat stalk grew 10,000 years ago, you can today walk for hundreds upon hundreds of kilometers without encountering any other plant. Worldwide, wheat covers about 2.25 million square kilometers of the globe’s surface, almost ten times the size of Britain. How did this grass turn from insignificant to ubiquitous?"
"Wheat did it by manipulating Homo sapiens to its advantage. This ape had been living a fairly comfortable life hunting and gathering until about 10,000 years ago, but then began to invest more and more effort in cultivating wheat. Within a couple of millennia, humans in many parts of the world were doing little from dawn to dusk other than taking care of wheat plants. It wasn’t easy. Wheat demanded a lot of them. Wheat didn’t like rocks and pebbles, so Sapiens broke their backs clearing fields. Wheat didn’t like sharing its space, water, and nutrients with other plants, so men and women labored long days weeding under the scorching sun. Wheat got sick, so Sapiens had to keep a watch out for worms and blight. Wheat was defenseless against other organisms that liked to eat it, from rabbits to locust swarms, so the farmers had to guard and protect it. Wheat was thirsty, so humans lugged water from springs and streams to water it. Its hunger even impelled Sapiens to collect animal feces to nourish the ground in which wheat grew. "
"The body of Homo sapiens had not evolved for such tasks. It was adapted to climbing apple trees and running after gazelles, not to clearing rocks and carrying water buckets. Human spines, knees, necks, and arches paid the price. Studies of ancient skeletons indicate that the transition to agriculture brought about a plethora of ailments, such as slipped disks, arthritis, and hernias. Moreover, the new agricultural tasks demanded so much time that people were forced to settle permanently next to their wheat fields. This completely changed their way of life. We did not domesticate wheat. It domesticated us. The word “domesticate” comes from the Latin domus, which means “house.” Who’s the one living in a house? Not the wheat. It’s the Sapiens. "
"How did wheat convince Homo sapiens to exchange a rather good life for a more miserable existence? What did it offer in return? ... It offered nothing for people as individuals. Yet it did bestow something on Homo sapiens as a species. Cultivating wheat provided much more food per unit of territory, and thereby enabled Homo sapiens to multiply exponentially."
“The currency of evolution is neither hunger nor pain, but rather copies of DNA helixes. Just as the economic success of a company is measured only by the number of dollars in its bank account, not by the happiness of its employees, so the evolutionary success of the species is measured by the number of copies of its DNA. If no more DNA copies remain, the species is extinct, just as a company without money is bankrupt. If a species boasts many DNA copies, it is a success, and the species flourishes. From such a perspective, 1,000 copies are always better than a hundred copies. This is the essence of the Agricultural Revolution: the ability to keep more people alive under worse conditions."
“Yet why should individuals care about this evolutionary calculus? Why would any sane person lower his or her standard of living just to multiply the number of copies of the Homo sapiens genome? Nobody agreed to this deal: the Agricultural Revolution was a trap."
Imagination it's a quote from John Burdon Sanderson Haldane, british geneticist and evolutionary biologist.
In Panspermia talk about panspermia, the hypothesis that life exists throughout the Universe, distributed by space dust,[1] meteoroids, asteroids, comets, and planetoids as well as by spacecraft carrying unintended contamination by microorganisms. Distribution may have occurred spanning galaxies, and so may not be restricted to the limited scale of solar systems. Panspermia studies concentrate not on how life began, but on methods that may distribute it in the Universe.
Just as iconic as Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey is the floating fetus born in a luminous placental sphere at the end, floating in space and staring at the Earth with its alien eyes. The famous director used this image as a metaphor for our species emerging from the cosmos and evolving into interplanetary creatures. Similarly, the seed that appears in Panspermia represents the conquest of space by plants.
Deep space noise reminds us that there is no noise in space. There is no means that could serve as a support for sound waves, therefore no propagation of vibrations is possible. Therefore silence reigns in space. When in science fiction movies we see space shuttles moving in a deafening roar through space, it's not realistic! Just as you can't hear explosions or the sound of laser weapons! At the end of the episode AL plays "Space Oddity" by David Bowie. Perhaps the most famous song ever among those inspired by space. An extraordinary piece, an absolute masterpiece of music history, was inspired not only by the space travel of those years, but also by the many science fiction films and short stories written in that period. Among all also the aforementioned 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick.
As I write this post, I discovered that in "Solos", season 1 episode 3, titled "Peg" the woman played by Helen Mirren travels in a micro spaceship talking with an artificial intelligence. At the end of the episode the AI puts the song "Space Oddity" by David Bowie. You may think that it was inspired or that it is a tribute but it is not.

Timestamp #214: The Vampires of Venice
Doctor Who: The Vampires of Venice (1 episode, s05e06, 2010)
There’s something fishy in the waters of Venice.
Meanwhile in the TARDIS, Part II
The Doctor gets Amy back into the TARDIS where she continues trying to seduce him. While he tries to work the console, proclaiming to be a mix between Gandalf and Yoda, Amy points out just how much a a typical guy he is.
The Doctor tells her that he just can’t see it anymore. He’s lost the wonder. Everything is just… stuff. He wants Amy to help open his eyes to the wonders again.
Amy takes this as a clue that she’s not the first companion. When she asks how many of them were girls, the Doctor dances around the question, so Amy brings up the visual records with a little trick. The TARDIS obliges, showing her only the women who have traveled with the Doctor.
The Doctor decides to go find Rory, who is at his bachelor party.
The Vampires of Venice
In Venice, 1580, Guido presents his teenage daughter Isabella to Rosanna Calvierri and her son, Francesco. Isabella is seeking entrance to Rosanna’s school, and when it is granted, Rosanna takes the young woman promptly.
As Guido leaves the room, Isabella is inspected before Francesco reveals himself as a vampire.
Four centuries in the future, Rory is enjoying his bachelor party until the Doctor pops out of a cake instead of the expected stripper. The Doctor reveals that Amy tried to kiss him, but it’s okay because she is a great kisser.
It sounded better in his head, you know.
Some time later, the Doctor is working on the TARDIS console as he offers relationship advice to the young couple. He also offers to take them to any location so they can get away together. He decides on Venice, a bit perturbed that Rory understands the “bigger on the inside” concept.
He goes on for a spell about the founding and history of Venice, including a note to avoid Casanova, before running into a guard who asks for traveling credentials in an attempt to stop the plague. The travelers use the psychic paper to bypass the checkpoint – Rory is apparently the Doctor’s eunuch – before running into Guido and learning about Isabella’s plight.
In the school’s courtyard, Francesco tries to convince his mother that they have more than enough converts, but she’s not convinced at all. He later trawls the streets looking for another victim. The subsequent screams draw Amy and Rory. After spotting the vampire fangs, Amy gives chase.
The Doctor breaks into the school and encounters a group of female vampires, impressed by their lack of reflections. They ask who he is and he shows them a library card, so they vamp out to chase him away. He runs into Amy and Rory. Amy and the Doctor are excited about the vampires, but Rory is appalled.
Amy and the Doctor strategize with Guido on how to get into the school undercover. The Doctor and Rory argue that Amy shouldn’t be the one to go in, but she spins an elaborate cover story. Rory does not like the idea of the Doctor posing as her fiancé, so Amy and Rory pose as siblings to gain Rosanna’s favor. One flash of the psychic paper later and Amy’s matriculated.
She soon finds Isabella and learns about being strapped to a chair for a procedure that she cannot remember. All she knows is that the sunlight now burns her skin. As Amy looks for a way in for her traveling companions, Guido (in Rory’s stag party shirt) takes the Doctor and an apprehensive Rory to meet her.
They talk about Amy’s relationship with the Doctor while the Time Lord shows off his huge UV light. Rory challenges the Doctor about his attitude that makes people take risks to impress him. They also discover a corpse that it completely drained of all fluids before being ambushed.
Amy gets captured and taken to Rosanna where she is confronted about the psychic paper. Amy is strapped down and bitten by Rosanna. The headmistress explains that they drink the girls dry and replace their blood with that of their own kind. Amy kicks Rosanna, exposing a perception filter and the vampire’s true nature.
Yep, they’re aliens.
Isabella rescues Amy and the travelers escape into the sunlight. The Doctor tries to go back for Isabella but is attacked by an electric shock. As the morning continues on, Isabella is forced into the canal behind the school where she is eaten alive by the males of the species who are hiding beneath the water’s surface.
Rosanna returns to her throne room to find the Doctor waiting for her. He has deduced she is from Saturnyne. She’s using a perception filter to appear human and they share a common identity as alien refugees. Rosanna’s planet was consumed by the cracks in time, and while fleeing the Silence, they ended up on Earth. Rosanna asks for the Doctor’s help in rebuilding her species, but he only wants to know what happened to Isabella. Rosanna disavows Isabella, remarking only that all traitors must be killed. As the Time Lord is escorted out, he shouts that he will stop her. If only because she didn’t know Isabella’s name.
With a malfunctioning perception filter, Rosanna assembles her girls in the courtyard and prepares to wage war. Meanwhile, the Doctor reunites with Guido and his traveling companions and hashes out Rosanna’s plan. He deduces that she plans to sink Venice and give rise to a new Saturnyne.
The “vampires” pick that moment to assault Guido’s home, forcing the heroes to flee. Guido commandeers the UV light and locks himself inside, luring the girls to his gunpowder stash which he uses to destroy the invaders at the expense of his own life.
As Rosanna begins her plan, the Doctor forces Amy to return to the TARDIS. Rory thanks the Doctor and pursues her as the Time Lord returns to the school and tries to stop Rosanna’s machine. He finds it deadlock sealed, but even the news that her daughters are dead doesn’t dissuade the headmistress.
Rory and Amy find a detour in Francesco. Rory fights him while Amy uses her compact mirror to disintegrate the alien in a burst of sunlight. Amy kisses Rory in celebration before they both rush off to help the Doctor.
The Time Lord is miffed about Rory’s change of heart, but he soon leaves them in charge of dismantling the throne as he ascends the bell tower after Rosanna. He ascends to the spire and stops the weather machine before finding Rosanna on the canal’s edge.
The matriarch’s perception filter has failed, locking her in her human form. She prepares to dive to her death, and as the Doctor rushes to stop her, she tells him that he’ll have to live with the death of her species on his conscience. She then jumps into the water and is consumed.
The Doctor, Amy, and Rory return to the TARDIS. Seeing Amy’s excitement and her apprehension about the wedding, Rory offers to break off their engagement. Amy replies that he should travel with them, and the Doctor agrees.
As they are about to leave, silence falls around the Doctor, an omen of the darkness still surrounding them.
This is a tough story to consider. On the one hand, the story is quite average with a small connection to the ongoing thread about the Doctor being the last of his kind. This story would have played well in the Tennant era which leaned heavily on the Doctor pledging to prevent another such genocide. It also plays well here, both as a counterbalance to Matt Smith’s portrayal of a younger, hip, almost laissez-faire Doctor and as a fulfillment of his promise to never be cowardly or cruel, and to never give up or give in.
On the other hand, we have some great (and tough to handle) character development with this twisted triangle. As much as I despise the attempted seduction of the Doctor by Amy, it opens the door to some dramatic friction. Amy’s attracted to the Doctor, but the Doctor isn’t interested in her. Rory loves Amy and she seems to love him, but she’s not quite ready to settle down. The Doctor’s interests reside with unraveling the mysteries surrounding these two while helping them to find each other.
But the biggest source of friction is how poorly Amy treats Rory. She seems irritated that the Doctor brought him in, but seems excited to be with Rory on a wedding-gift vacation. It all comes back to the Doctor, however, because they are there purely because of time travel and Amy immediately gravitates back to the adventure instead of guiding and mentoring her future husband.
Let’s be frank: Rory needs reassurance about their relationship and Amy is either ignorant or reluctant to provide it. She’s not holding up her end of the Pond-Williams team and effectively leaving Rory alone in the storm roiling around them.
I wish that she would treat Rory better because I really love the chemistry between Karen Gillan and Matt Smith, but that amazing connectivity is blunted by Amy’s disregard for Rory, who seems to be a really sharp and grounded character.
I loved a lot of the mythology touches throughout the episode, from the First Doctor library card to the Doctor’s continued fear of heights. A closer look at the library card reveals that it was issued to “Dr. J. Smith”, continuing the John Smith alias into the Hartnell era, and was registered to 76 Totter’s Lane in Shoreditch, London. The story also swerved into meta territory with the jokes about Casanova, which touches on both David Tennant and guest star Helen McCrory.
We also cannot forget that the Doctor has plenty of experience with vampires and blood-drinkers, including State of Decay, The Curse of Fenric, and Smith and Jones.
I bounced back and forth for a while on the score for this one, but finally settled on my modus operandi of rounding up.
Rating: 4/5 – “Would you care for a jelly baby?”

Major Arcana Amino Acids
Alrighty, it is finally done! Gaze upon the things my brain cooks up at random.
Note, What I did was since the aminos grouped themselves nicely into 9 essential, 12 non essential and 1 not used by humans groups, I equated those essentially to the 9 Planets and the 12 Zodiac signs FIRST, but then I decided to also assign signs/planets to Tarot cards in my own way, one that doesn’t necessarily follow the golden dawn’s way of doing it.
The major difference being my cards aren’t in any real sort of order, but I think the sign/planet + card/Amino Acid match was just made better this way
But, I’ll list all three side by side so you can decide for yourself
Also, amino acids are really, like, they do a lot of the same things, so in order to make them distinct i basically just had to take one or two fun facts and associate them with a planet or a zodiac sign so these are already not really that deep lol :p
For the TL;DR Version first:
Essential Amino Acids = (Humans cannot produce on their own but are vital to human life/Humans must have in diet)
Phenylalanine - Sun - The Sun
Tryptophan - Moon - The Moon
Leucine - Mercury - The Magician
Lysine - Venus - Wheel of Fortune
Histidine - Mars - The Tower
Methionine - Jupiter - The Emperor
Threonine - Saturn - The Hermit
Isoleucine - Uranus - The Hierophant
Valine - Neptune - Temperance
Conditionally Essential Amino Acids = (Humans can produce on their own in healthy stable systems, but severe physiological stress makes supplementation in diet necessary to life. Think newborns, illness, elderly etc)
Arginine - Capricorn - The Devil
Cysteine - Sagittarius - Death
Glycine - Taurus - Judgement
Glutamine - Virgo - High Priestess
Proline - Scorpio - The Hanged Man
Tyrosine - Leo - Strength
Dispensable Amino Acids = (Humans are pretty much always able to make sufficient quantities without needing to get it in their diets as well and regardless of physiological stress.)
Alanine - Cancer - The Empress
Aspartic Acid - Gemini - The Lovers
Asparagine - Libra - Justice
Glutamic Acid - Aquarius - The Star
Serine - Pisces - The Chariot
Selenocysteine - Aries - The Fool
Non-Essential = Not used or made in Humans whatsoever, Humans can live without it. Essential for other forms of life on earth though.
Pyrrolysine - Earth - The World
For the fun facts and reason why, follow the rest of this post in Major Arcana order:
0 The Fool - Aries - Selenocysteine
This is what’s called the 21st amino acid and it’s found in very few organisms. What is usually a code for the body to stop making amino acids, in special cases this can be sometimes read as making a new different amino acid instead. It’s associated with reproductive health and stopping the effects of aging, so a powerful association with youth. Later on, you’ll see Death is Cysteine, which the only difference between the two is the Selenium ion here is replaced with a Sulfur ion there. Life and Death.
1 The Magician - Mercury - Leucine
Leucine is an amino acid that’s known for reducing a person’s mental and physical fatigue, refreshing them in order to be able to do more with the mind and body. it’s also known in a wider role as an all purpose healer.
2 The High Priestess - Virgo - Glutamine
Fun Fact, Statistically the average common birthday is on September 9th, meaning most people born are born Virgo’s. Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in humans. That’s it that’s the joke. Also is essential for humans in times of stress. Also it’s somewhat related to Gluten which is a common component of Wheat Products.
3 The Empress - Cancer - Alanine
Alanine is used to break down another amino acid, Tryptophan (Spoilers ahead but this is the Moon one) and a different version appears as a component of cell walls. Also it occurs in the tissues of many crustaceans and molluscs as an osmolyte.
(Osmolytes are low-molecular weight organic compounds that influence the properties of biological fluids. Their primary role is to maintain the integrity of cells by affecting the viscosity, melting point, and ionic strength of the aqueous solution.)
4 The Emperor - Jupiter - Methionine
Methionine is the most common “starting” amino acid when it comes to making protein chains and is often seen as an initiator amino acid. It also plays an important role in metabolism and helps with maintaining and protecting damaged tissue while it heals. Felt accurate to put this one with Jupiter as a Leader Amino. And also for the fact that has a hand in producing or creating many different types of proteins due to it’s common role as leader, so, Jupiter, lol.
5 The Hierophant - Saturn - Threonine
Threonine supports the immune system of the body, which is how the body learns and remembers from past diseases to help stave off the future encounters with those diseases. It mitigates hyperactive behavior, and aids in the production of the body’s foundations; the skeletal system and in the central nervous system. It is also surprisingly abundant in newborns. Altogether this fits with the Hierophant’s nature as the stable, sturdy and strict instructor, who teaches what he knows to the next generation of youth. Is important to the production of Glycine and Serine, associated with Taurus and Pisces respectively as seen later.
6 The Lovers - Gemini - Aspartic Acid
There are two forms or “enantiomers” of aspartic acid. The name "aspartic acid" can refer to either form or a mixture of two. Of these two forms, only one, "L-aspartic acid", is directly incorporated into proteins. The biological roles of its counterpart, "D-aspartic acid" are more limited. Where biological synthesis will either produce one or the other, most chemical syntheses will produce both forms, as "DL-aspartic acid". Its also very sweet and where we get Aspartame from!
7 The Chariot - Pisces - Serine
Essential to the proper functioning of the nervous system as it is essential to the production of Serotonin. Also associated with Tryptophan (Remember this one? it’s the Moon one again!) because it cannot be made without Serine as well. Both Serotonin and Tryptophan shortages are believed to cause depression, insomnia, and anxiety
8 Justice - Libra - Asparagine
Asparagine is essential to maintaining equilibrium in the human nervous system. It both increases resistance to fatigue and makes things function smoothly. It is required for the development of the brain, and a lack of it can cause confusion and headaches.
9 The Hermit - Uranus - Isoleucine
Isoleucine can boost the overall physical and mental energy levels of a person and tends to be stored in the body in quite large quantities. So it’s associated with the sudden bursts of energy or inspiration you see in Uranus, or the stark religious and spiritual moments of enlightenment in the Hermit card as symbolized by his Lantern. it helps detoxify the body be removing all the extra waste, similar to the idea of the Hermit who lives a very bare monk-like lifestyle. Isoleucine deficiency is more common in the elderly as well and is similar to the symptoms of hypoglycemia aka low blood sugar.
10 Wheel of Fortune - Venus - Lysine
Lysine has a bunch of functions: major roles in creating proteins, hormone production, reduce calcium loss, energy production, reduces anxiety, increases mental clarity, healing wounds with collagen creation, really just an all around lady multivitamin. Also it’s a reference to the lysine contigency in the jurassic park movie that coincidentally also made all the dinosaurs female to try and prevent them from breeding.
11 Strength - Leo - Tyrosine
Improves alertness, attention, focus. Essential to the good mood improving brain chemicals like Dopamine and Adrenaline. Also benefits those who are sleep deprived, A single dose of it helped people who lost a night’s sleep stay alert for three hours longer than they otherwise would have.
12 The Hanged Man - Scorpio - Proline
Proline is an essential component of collagen, vital for joints and tendons. So it helps with flexibility of the Hanged Man. Also helps maintain and strengthen heart muscles a reference to in the zodiac the most important star in Scorpio is Antares, the Heart of the Scorpion. It is a potent neurotoxin as well when in contact with brain and nerve cells, fitting the symbolism of the scorpion and the symbolical idea of the Traitor.
13 Death - Sagittarius - Cysteine
Cysteine is created from Methionine, and since Jupiter rules Sagittarius and also Death used to be portrayed as an Archer/Riding a Pale Horse. It’s important for diverse functions such as detoxifying the body and the production of hair, skin and nails as it produces Beta-Karotine. This has Chiron associations and the fun fact that as corpses decay, the body appears to grow longer hair and nails, but really the skin is just shrinking back to the body.
14 Temperance - Neptune - Valine
The name Valine comes from Valerian, the plant source that this amino comes from in high quantities. A Sedative or anti-anxiety drug, Valine has the added role of supporting the central nervous system and cognitive function. It helps with sleep disorders and helps heal organs that were damaged by drug or alcohol use. In general can help ease and blur various kinds of psychological distress.
15 The Devil - Capricorn - Arginine
Arginine is conditionally essential humans under some sort of stress or duress, such as the elderly, newborns, or those injured in some way either through burns, toxins or injuries. It plays an important role in wound healing and regulating blood pressure through cell division and is also one of the most common amino acids found in blood. As well as being being important for the production of reproductive cells, Arginine is also required for the detoxification of ammonia, which is an extremely toxic substance for the central nervous system.
16 The Tower - Mars - Histidine
Essential for histamine production aka the chemical responsible for all the body’s allergic reactions. They are the body’s over enthusiastic response to anything it considers a threat. Protects from radiation and heavy metals in the body and increases blood flow. Histidine is also a precursor to many hormonal responses in the body. Histidine deficiencies can lead to anemia, or a lack of iron in the body.
17 The Star - Aquarius - Glutamic Acid
The Most common stimulating neurotransmitter, Glutamic Acid is essential for nerve cells in the brain to send and receive messages. Stimulates mental alertness, memory and learning. As an important brain chemical, it has a hand in many of the brains functions and is important to the treatment of various neurological conditions such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety and other mood related disorders. It is also responsible for the savory flavor (umami) of certain foods, such as MSG.
18 The Moon - Moon - Tryptophan
Tryptophan is responsible for that sleep feeling you get when you eat too much thanksgiving dinner and all the carbs unlocks the sleepy chemical from the turkey and knocks you out. It’s also the crucial component in serotonin production, which is then also crucial in melotonin production. Basically the turkey chemical makes the happy chemical makes the sleepy chemical. May cause sedation, drowsiness, headache, blurred vision, euphoria, reduced aggression and fluorescence. What a ~Tryp!
19 The Sun - Sun - Phenylalanine
Phenylalanine aka how to make the happy chemical part 2: it is responsible for the creation of: dopamine, epinephren, norepinephren and melanin. Which can help mobilize the body for action, It helps with memory, alertness and the making the sleep wake cycle function like it’s supposed to. It’s a strong part of the flight or fight response but also energetic behaviors and emotions and the part of the brain that rewards you and makes you feel good when you do things.
20 Judgement - Taurus - Glycine
As the main ingredient in collagen Glycine is hard at work growing and maintaining muscles, skin, cartilage, blood, bones and ligaments. It also supports the body’s metabolism and circadian rhythms and can even help limit brain damage in the case of a stroke. It protects against many forms of damage in the body like cancer, oxidation, alcohol damage and general stress. Glycine is also a neurotransmitter with the ability to be both excitatory and inhibitory, meaning it can function both to stimulate brain and nervous system activity, or to quiet it. Glycine is also involved in the body’s production of DNA and RNA, the genetic instructions that deliver our body’s cells the information they need to function. It functionally is the amino acid pulling the strings behind a lot of major systems and the final word on what ends up happening in a lot of processes.
21 The World - Earth - Pyrrolysine
Similar to the Fool’s Selenocysteine, this is another amino that happens when the code for Stop is instead read as the code for “make another amino”. But actually Pyrrolysine isn’t actually used in the human body and so it is neither essential or non essential (since non essential doesn’t mean not used, it means the body can produce it on it’s own, essential means the body must eat it to survive.)
Also, Pyrrolysine is a form of Lysine, which is the venus lady fortune dinosaur chemical, and the picture of the lady on the world always did remind me of “The Birth of Venus” painting so there’s a connection there too.
And that’s it! Not likely to get any pip cards to match because I have no idea what the fuck id even put on them, also im tired now

My Thoughts on Venom 2018 Part 1: How did this even happen?
This was the most bizarre comic book film experience of my life. I am going to attempt to organize my thoughts below but to some extent this will be a stream of consciousness.
As far as recommendations are concerned.
If you are a hardcore Venom fan: Go see this you’ve been waiting 20 years for it.
If you are a hardcore Spider-Man fan: You don’t need to see this.
If you are a comic book fan: If you love 90s schlock turn your brain off and go for it.
If you are a comic book movie/general movie fan: It’s schlock but bizarre and at times entertaining schlock so if you like that...see this. If you want something with the average competency of any given MCU film steer clear.
With all that said let’s dive deep into this movie. SPOILERS for the movie, though I’m not synopsising it.
Venom a history
Long story short, once upon a time in the 1980s Marvel gave Spider-Man a new black costume. People initially hated it. Marvel got rid of it by revealing it was actually an alien, a symbiote trying to bond with Spidey who promptly rejected it and ultimately tried to destroy it.
Except by then people had decided they loved the suit. Later in the 1980s a guy by the name of David Michelinie came up with the idea of giving the alien costume to a new character and thus creating a new villain.
The new character was reporter Eddie Brock who broke a story revealing the identity of a notorious serial killer known as the Sin Eater. Except Brock hadn’t fact checked properly and shortly afterwards Spidey caught the actual killer. Brock was fired in disgrace and his life spiralled downwards from there, with him blaming Spider-Man for his woes. That was when he encountered Spidey old alien costume and bonded to it, the pair sharing a mutual burning hatred for the wall-crawler.
The result was Venom, a hulking with Spider-Man’s powers (and then some) with the cool aesthetic of Spidey’s black suit combined with monstrous features like a wicked grin and claws.
Venom was a hit. More than a hit, he was the most successful character in Spider-Man lore since Spider-Man himself.
And so he kept coming back to menace Spider-Man over and over again. Except over time he began to change. When starting out, Venom was a wicked sadistic homicidal maniac hellbent on nothing but killing Spider-Man. But as time went by a new aspect worked its way into Venom: a desire to protect the innocent, even via violent means.
A key turning point for the character was when Michelinie introduced yet another new villain, Carnage. Carnage was the result of serial killer Cletus Kasady bonding to another alien costume, this one being the off spring of the Venom symbiote. Carnage was a mass murderer more powerful than Venom and Spider-Man. Due to their mutual desire to protect the innocent though Spidey and Venom formed a tenuous alliance to bring down Carnage.
Thus Venom for the first time assumed the role of an anti-hero, a type of character who by this point in time (the early 1990s) had grown wildly popular in comic books and pop culture as a whole. A prime example would be the character of the T-800 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day as played by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Eventually Marvel decided to have Venom spin-off completely from Spider-Man. In a story culminating in Amazing Spider-Man #375 David Michelinie introduced Eddie Brock’s estranged ex-wife Ann Weying and had Venom and Spidey part ways under a truce that they’d leave one another alone.
This was set up for Venom getting a long string of mini-series that chronicled his solo-adventures as an anti-hero. The first of these was in 1993’s Venom: Lethal Protector. The six part story (penned by Michelinie) saw Eddie Brock (sporting a noticeably softer and longer haired appearance) move to San Francisco seeking a new purpose in his life.
Whilst in San Fran Venom came into conflict with (among others) Roland Treece and the Life Foundation.
The former was a rich businessman seeking to destroy a secret underground community of homeless people in order to obtained wealth lost in one of San Fran’s old earthquakes.
The latter was an organization of survivalists looking to live out a potential nuclear apocalypse from a place of luxury and power. Among their members was Carlton Drake who was heavily involved in a project to create super powered security guards for the Life Foundation. They sought to do this by extracting further offspring from the Venom symbiote and bonding them to specially selected security personnel.
From this process new symbiote villains were created, namely Phage, Lasher, Agony, Scream and Riot.
Venom seemingly defeated all these symbiotes along with Treece, thus gaining a place among the underground community of homeless people as their champion and defender.
Michelinie had relatively little further involvement with Venom after the Lethal Protector mini-series though he returned in 1995 to pen a crossover story with Spider-Man called ‘Planet of the Symbiotes’. The plot centred upon Earth being invaded by an army of symbiotes seeking to bond with all human life and the revelation that the Venom symbiote was an outcast even amongst it’s own kind, chiefly because it sought to permanently bond with one of its host in a mutually beneficial and loving relationship.
Venom had many more sol adventures in the 1990s, some of which involved Eddie’s ex wife Ann Weying who at times bonded with the Venom symbiote herself to become She-Venom.
Venom’s solo adventures are widely considered amongst comic book and Spider-Man fans to be of generally poor quality and the anti-hero direction for Venom (even prior to his being spun-off) is often a source of controversy within Spider-Man fandom.
Whilst Michelinie was the man who first instituted Venom along the path of being less overtly evil, it should be noted it was never his preference for Venom to become a solo character or never primarily serve the role of an antagonist for Spider-Man. That was a decision made by higher ups at Marvel due to both the popularity of anti-heroes at the time and the immense sales Venom as a character generated whenever he appeared in Spider-Man stories.
At some point in the 1990s a Venom movie was put into development and announced in the pages of Marvel comics. Among the strongest advocates for the film was CEO of Toy Biz turned film producer Avi Arad, who has been involved in various Marvel projects throughout the decades. His enthusiasm for a Venom movie was chiefly based upon the immense toy sales the character generated.
The Venom movie was stuck in various stages of development for many years. It’s chances for finally coming to fruition were greatly increased following the release of 2007’s Spider-Man 3, which included Venom as a studio mandate upon director Sam Raimi who had initially not wanted to include the character.
However the Venom movie (along with future sequels to Spider-Man 3) continued to be stuck in development for many years. Venom’s chance to make it to the big screen in a solo venture again seemed likely in the early-mid 2010s when Sony (the owners of the Spider-Man film rights) attempted to form an interconnected film series based upon Spider-Man characters, Venom being among them.
Sony’s desire for this type of film series was motivated by the success of Disney/Marvel Studios with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which had then recently hit big when they released The Avengers in 2012, the culmination of five prior movies introducing separate characters within the same narrative continuity.
However when 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 met with financial and critical failure Sony (after briefly scrambling several desperate film ideas together) struck a deal with Marvel Studios to allow Spider-Man to appear in the MCU for a share in the profits.
Thus their prior plans were scraped and a new version of Spider-Man debuted in the 2016 hit MCU movie Captain America: Civil War before appearing the next year in a solo venture, Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Sony however apparently still aspired to have their own competing comic book film universe and so put into production the animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and, finally, the live action Venom movie. Only due to agreements with Marvel Studios the Venom movie would not including Spider-Man himself at all.
The production was relatively speedy, this likely due to the script, to my understanding, being essentially a script written during the 1990s and updated for modern times as opposed to being written from scratch. The specific script in question draws primarily from the Lethal Protector mini-series and to a lesser extent other nuggets from Venom’s lore, including Planet of the Symbiotes and She-Venom.
The movie was released in early October 2018 (coincidentally, or not, 2018 also marked Venom’s 30th anniversary) and thus far has generated mixed reviews from professional critics, more favourable reviews from general audiences and is on track to prove financially profitable enough that future Sony Spider-Man movies (including Venom sequels) may be on the horizon.

Keep Her Secret [1]
GOT7
Mark Tuan/Reader [F]
Genre: Dystopian Future, Hybrid AU, Drama, Romance
Words: 1.8k
Part: 00/ 1/
He found a human laying in a heep of rubble, right out in the open. Dangerous and stupid. However, unlike other human’s he’s encountered before, the first thing he wanted to do was help this human. Not kill her.
————————————————–
How did the world end up like this? What it because of man’s greed? Because of our constant need to have a goal, our constant want of progression? Was it because we finally dug too deep, we hit the rock bottom everyone always talked about and now we’re stuck with no way out and death staring down our deep, deep hole like a human staring at an insect? You didn’t know, in fact you didn’t know anything.
Just what was this world like before it was like this. This awful world with air so thick, so dense, so clouded and gray it was like breathing in fire smoke. What was it like when the sky wasn’t covered in a dark, depressing overcast? What were the building like when they were ruined, broken, dilapidated and crumbling like legos? Was the grass suppose to be grey? Tan? Dead? You didn’t know anything.
You didn’t even know where you were, who you were? Just who are you? What’s your name? Your age? Were you in danger, did you have a family, friends? A place to go to? You had no idea.
You didn’t know anything, couldn’t remember anything. The only thing you could remember is when he showed up. Out of seemingly nowhere, he just showed up out of the blue. You didn’t know him, but somehow you just felt like he knew you.
-------------------------
He had caught onto the scent of a human, a pure human. His heightened senses of his coyote DNA ruining through his body drew him to it, his light colored fur moving in contrast to the dark world. However, unlike if he was locking onto a standard human, ready to rip their throat out, this scent almost seemed like he wasn’t supposed to attack whoever it belonged to.
He moved swiftly through the rubble of, what use to be, the middle of a fruitful city. In his form of the coyote he shared his blood with, it was much easier to move around, hunt, live really. But, when he perched on top of a large piece of a building that gave him a higher view of his surroundings, he saw you.
His canine eyes narrowed as he watched you look around. You sat on the ground, rubble and dust all around you. You held your leg, as he could faintly smell the blood on you. You kept whipping your head around, back and forth, behind you, even above you. Just what were you, a simple human, doing? Perhaps, you were hoping no hybrid would catch your bloody scent that was so tempting to his kind.
However, it didn’t seem like you were frightened, but rather, you seemed to be looking around in confusion. Almost seeking answers, anything. He moved down from the piece of debris and under the shade of a large piece of, yet more, destruction, he emerged in his human form.
He was still young, only 23, but his blood as a hybrid helped his mind mature faster than his body and he knew right from wrong, enemy from friend and most importantly, he knew how to survive. His blonde hair shone, almost like the sun he had only seen once in his entire life, before the eternal cloud took over the skies. His skin, a pale color that once use to be a honey color but the lack of sun had diminished it. His eyes, fading from their canine gold to their brown of his human form. A pair of ripped jeans, worn shoes, t-shirt that he pulled from from random line that was in decent shape and a jean jacket that has seen more than your average inanimate object.
You definitely weren’t a hybrid, you would have heard, or at least smelt his scent by now if you were. Granted, there were many kinds of hybrids. Some could shift into animal forms to human forms like himself. Other have only their human forms with their identities as hybrids attached to them permanently with a set of ears, or a tail, maybe scales or claws in some cases. Others looked completely human, but their senses, as well as their ability to communicate with other animals or non-human species, was proof enough to deduce they were indeed, not human.
You however, were just a simple human. Pure, born and bred in the world. There were very few of your kind left, either killed from sickness, injury, being stuck in the wrong situation at the wrong time or murdered by hybrids.
Hybrids despised humans. They were literally the bane of their existence, if humans weren’t such foolish, greedy creatures, then hybrids wouldn’t have been created. If they hadn’t been so power seeking, then their future wouldn’t have vanished from their fingertips like a feather being ripping from their grasp in the wind.
They’re foolish. They think that if one day they were to vanish, the world would stop turning. A blind, foolish, naive race humans were. Even if every human should vanish off the planet, even if everything on the planet died and it became a solitary rock, floating in space, it would still revolve around the hidden sun, still rotate between day and night.
Humans were not the reason the earth moved; they were not the essence of its constant revolutions, even if they thought they were.
Mark had killed human’s before. Without thought, without reason, just simply because they were human. He was ready to do the same to you, but it was like his body, his own blood was stopping him. Why wouldn’t his mind let him picture a near future image with your bloody, battered corpse at his feet? He’d done it to countless others, so why not you?
Honestly speaking, the usually sweet scent of blood that he got from humans, almost made his stomach turn. Your blood was sweet in scent, no doubt, but just thinking about how it could be spilled on his hands, or pooling around his feet, it made him feel sick. It wasn’t natural; it didn’t make sense.
It didn’t make sense until you finally noticed his figure, 20 feet away, hiding under a shadow. Your eyes locked with his, and his heart seemed to jump. His eyes widened just a fraction at the sight of you, the sight of your eyes, your nose, lips, ears. He wasn’t even close to you, yet for some reason, the faint outline he could see of your face, it lured him in.
He had started to think about a possibility. A reason why his body didn’t let him think about what he wanted to think about, why his stomach churned at the sight of your blood, why his eyes couldn’t be torn away from yours. It was a small possibility, but as his feet started to bring him closer to you, it grew more and more.
All it would take is a touch, if he just touched you once, even just barely, he’d know for sure.
You watched, sitting and pushing your hands on your still slowly bleeding wound, as this mysterious man came closer to you. You didn’t know where he came from, but he didn’t look much other than yourself. Maybe he had some answers, answers to anything. Something to tell you that could set you straight, set you on a path on what to do, where to go.
He came within 3 feet of you, standing in front of you, looking down. You stared up at him. Neither of you spoke, could you even speak? Once again, you didn’t remember.
“What are you doing here?” His voice startled you, as you were trying to recall how to speak. Did it take effort, was it hard to do? When he noticed your eyes shaking eyes, he bent his knees to get eye level with you, even if he didn’t come any closer. His arms rested on his knees as you opened and shut your mouth a few times.
“Can you speak?” He hadn’t encountered a human who couldn’t speak before, but he had heard they existed. They’re hard to find now, but by the way your breathing was slightly raspy, he figured your body had just woken up. Had you really been unconscious out here; out in the open?
He moved closer to you, and then shifted behind you. You watched as he moved to kneel behind your back before he started to lightly pound behind your shoulder blades. Soon, you were forcing out dry, harsh coughs as Mark unconsciously rubbed your back.
The touch of his bare hand on your clothes back almost made him flinch. His hand felt like if he was touching your skin, it would burst into flames. It was a sign, a sign he had heard of, but didn’t really believe in. But now, he was almost being forced to believe it, and in such an unbelievable scenario.
“Thank.. you.” Your voice was rough as you finally seemed to recall how to speak. Your voice was contagious. Mark was a quiet person himself, but if when he spoke, you spoke back, he wouldn’t mind changing.
“Are you alright?” You nodded. “What happened to your leg?” You looked to the wound on your knee, as you shook your head.
“I.. don’t know. I don’t remember.” Mark moved to just be in your peripheral vision as you looked at the dusty, rocky ground beneath you. Your jeans that were probably once very nice, were now torn and ripped, one pant leg torn from the knee down and the other still in tact, but had holes. Your shirt, use to be long sleeved, but now the sleeves were torn at different lengths and the once comfortable U-neck had stretched out to show more than your fair share of your chest. If the wind blew just right, Mark could catch a glimpse of your dirty, worn bra, but he didn’t.
He was a Hybrid, not a scumbag.
“So, what do you remember?”
“That I can talk….” Mark furrowed his brows.
“So, you mean.. You can’t remember anything else?” You shook your head. “Do you even know your name?” You shook it again.
“I don’t know anything. Can you…” you lifted your head to look at him and grabbed his free hand, your pleading eyes looking at his. His hand felt like it was on fire, burning from your bare, skin to skin, touch. Your eyes were confused, lost yet he could see a small light burning in the center of your pupils, the same burning like that was in his. With that one touch, with that one look, he was certain now.
“Can you give me answers? Please….”
He was being forced into a situation he didn’t think was possible, and yet here he was. You were human, and yet, somehow, you were his. It’s not unnatural for canine’s, or any living organism, to have a partner- a mate.
Mark, a created specimen grown and raised for years in a scientific lab, had just found the mark of his mate in a human set of eyes. Each mate mark is different for every species and for him, it was the fire in their eyes, in your eyes.
Even if he never expected this and almost didn’t want to believe it, he was ready to do anything to keep you alive; anything to keep you safe.
Even lie.

headcanons : misc.
RE: MORE IMPORTANT/HEAVIER HEADCANONS RELATING TO CASSANDRA
alright so, since capella fell into a civil war when cassandra was 11, that’s kind of when she stopped going to school. ioavis was such a volatile time in her life as well- and forte and theon didn’t know shit about teaching a kid (beyond their respective professions). thea helped cassandra a little bit, but cassandra’s training as an augur came first.
it was only after cassandra had landed on pyrrah and met keandra again that she resumed any type formal education. while trying to read capellan texts on her inclination, cassandra realized just how poor her reading skills were. keandra tutored cassandra- honestly, he was the only one she would trust to help her. cassandra hates more than anything feeling st*pid, and would only let keandra see her that vulnerable.
cassandra learned enough math and science to maintain and fly her ship, and studied the history of many different planets- she only has a shallow knowledge of each one, since she was aiming to learn about as many as possible. cassandra also seriously resumed her studies in astrography that her grandmother had gotten her started on.
now cassandra has an above average reading level in capellan, and average reading levels in standard and english, and a very basic reading level in french.
alright so- at about age..14 or 15, cassandra stopped crying. cassandra’s time on ioavis was marked by constant high levels of stress, and for about ten years, when faced with something tragic or something that would make her cry, instead she would just shut down. in addition to just high stress, theon was…kind of an asshole. forte and theon both were. you know that one scene in “a league of their own” where tom hanks’ character yells at one of the players and says “there’s no crying in baseball!” yeah, theon and cassandra had a similar encounter. this idea of crying being a weakness was something theon instilled in her.
cassandra did not cry after forte’s death, instead she just went numb. she didn’t speak, she didn’t eat- once she started feeling again, she turned all that grief into anger, and that’s pretty much what got her through the rest of her time on ioavis- just running off anger.
after leaving ioavis, cassandra went to train with thea, and it could not have come at a better time. thea helped cassandra work through her issues- she still struggles with depression, along with enormous amounts of survivors guilt, but thea helped her learn how to cope with it all.
but cassandra didn’t really break down and cry until she saw keandra again. cassandra was overfilled with joy and relief- she wasn’t the last capellan! she wasn’t all alone in the universe. cassandra and keandra both cried for a good twenty minutes, and that’s kind of the turning point for cassandra. when she needs to, she cries. she tends to be an angrier crier.
see, cassandra might seem like she’s careless with fire- when she’s around people who know about her, she does use it pretty freely. but…she’s got an insane amount of control over it. the fact that she is able to use her powers so nonchalantly is a testament to how many hours she’s put into honing her inclination. she never starts a fire she can’t put out or one that will hurt someone unintentionally.
cassandra, in general, cultivates this reputation of being carefree and just…chill but almost in a bad way. she also acts kinda…airheaded at times too. like, oh she’s so flippant and clueless, she can’t possibly be dangerous. she wants her enemies to underestimate her.
…but when a friend calls into question her control or competence, cassandra gets very hurt. she is more than she appears to be, and she has put in so much time and energy honing her inclination and her clairvoyance- to have that insulted, however mildly, gets cassandra very upset.
after the fall of capella, cassandra couldn’t stand how silent her ship was- which seemed huge and sterile to a traumatized twelve year old. so she turned to music to fill that void. now…capellans have a slightly different view of music that humans simply because music is just…talking? or at the very least, instrumental music can be used to convey ideas and emotions. so it was less…music music and more of just background chatter.
when atlas was destroyed and dulcie died, cassandra was completely overwhelmed by the silence, both in her head, since she had gotten so used to atlas’ presence, and…in her life. paola was still there but nothing was the same. so, again, cassandra turned to music. now that her perception of music has changed from simply talking to this emotional outlet, it meant more i think?
when cassandra gets to earth, she’s that neighbor that always has her music too loud and while she always apologizes…she rarely changes it for long. it’s a huge coping mechanism but she’s rarely comfortable enough with someone to actually say that.
this is why cassandra takes immense joy in how loud her family is. she isn’t bothered in the slightest and will?? never police them on their volume. her fear of silence does start to lessen, but it never goes away. and she’s honestly just developed a love?? of noise because of it.
cassandra very rarely loses her temper honestly?? she’s not the yelling and screaming type unless it’s with someone she cares deeply about - the two obvious (and mostly likely) ones paola and splinter. when cassandra gets angry, she’s far more prone to storming away and sulking than yelling, so that she can recollect herself and not say something that she’ll regret.
when does lose her temper and gets extremely angry, she starts crying. but she hates this, and if you back down because she’s crying, it’ll only make her angrier.
and in an argument, she’s far more likely to wear a poker face and map out the conversation via her clairvoyance. again, only paola and splinter really see her get worked up in the moment and just keep barreling through the argument whilst angry.
okay so, because earth’s gravity is so much weaker than capella’s, cassandra will wake up some nights, usually disoriented by her visions, and feel almost completely weightless- like she’s just going to fly off the surface of the earth. this is a terrifying experience for cassandra- despite the fact that she loves floating in her ship’s gravity chamber, the feeling like she’s going to fly right off the earth is so scary because she has no control over it.
if she’s sleeping alone, she’ll grab the edges of the mattress, as if trying to keep herself from flying away. if she’s with splinter, she’ll usually accidentally wake him up when she wakes up, and ask him to either hold her or lay on her. the feeling of his arms holding her tightly or the weight of his body on top of her makes her feel grounded. he’ll usually whisper affirmations to her (”you’re safe, you’re alright, this is real, i’m here, nothing’s going to harm you”) until she relaxes enough to fall back asleep.
the thing about adjusting to earth’s climate is that everything that’s different from capella was a million times worse on pyrrah.
it was so much hotter on pyrrah than it is on earth, and definitely than it was on capella. so cassandra eventually got used to that.
as for culture…cassandra lived in france for the first…two years? i think it was? maybe three- on earth, and cassandra had done a lot of research on earth in general, but especially on france, in the two months it took her to get there. i haven’t really thought much about her time in france- that’s something i need to work on tbh
cassandra doesn’t understand american politics at all. on capella there was lot more involvement in politics and everyone was critical of it- especially because of the ‘capellan cycle’, where a government would exist on capella for a few centuries before being overthrown and replaced for a few more centuries. so especially for cassandra, who was the daughter of a political thinker and revolutionary, and a capellan who grew up at the end of the current government’s cycle, she grew up very critical of authority and very aware of what was going on in the government. so the way americans know they’re unhappy with their government, but always know exactly what’s wrong with it or how to fix it, and are at times unwilling to put in the effort to change it…doesn’t make sense to cassandra
another thing cassandra doesn’t understand is like…consumerism. like this culture of constantly buying more, or espECIALLY things being made to be broken and replaced. for most of capella’s history resources were scarce, so shit had to be built to last for a LONG time. and this mindset never went away, even when capella began trading with other planets. so cassandra’s just ???? at how everything on earth is made to be replaced.
cassandra always gets very solemn and quiet on the day capella fell, lost in her own thoughts and guilt, and she usually reaches out to keandra (and to a lesser extent, brooklyn) on that day because they’re all in bad places on that day.
also consider- everyone knowing this is a bad day for cassandra and doing their best to make her smile in their own ways. everyone gives her 100x more hugs and makes sure she knows that they love her
it should be noted that before getting to pyrrah, with the exception of her time without her ship on ioavis, cassandra pretty much lived off of the food stored in her capellan caravel. usually these foods are dehydrated to make them last longer, and while they’re not…especially tasty, there was enough on the ship for 50+ people to live on for one year. so cassandra really had no need for money, since capellan ships don’t use fuel like earth ships do, and there were uniforms on board for clothing.
however, most of the clothing was far too big for cassandra, who was very short by capellan standards when she was a child, and this was the primary reason she learned how to sew- so she could make adjustments so she wasn’t tripping over her pants at the very least.
when on pyrrah, cassandra began an apprenticeship under a ship mechanic, and after a year cassandra was offered a job there. at the time, she was living with the royal family, so again…she pretty got whatever she needed, and all the money she made was saved up.
later on, after leaving pyrrah and parting ways with keandra, cassandra began to take up work as a translator, working with countless universities and libraries across the galaxy and translating thousands of audio files, all recorded in capellan.
while it is possible to understand capellan without knowing the meaning of the way it’s sung, a lot of subtle details are lost that way. so cassandra’s knowledge of the capellan language was sought after by many, especially since she’s thought to be one of the last two capellans left.
working as a translator also allowed cassandra to work while still traveling- having any and all files that needed translation sent to her ship.
on cassandra’s ship there’s a bunch of pictures on this shelf of
paola, cassandra and keandra
cassandra and dulcie
cassandra’s family photo
cassandra and brooklyn
cassandra, brooklyn, jayjay and owl
cassandra, brooklyn, keandra, and dulcie
cassandra, keandra, paola & the royal family of pyrrah
cassandra,oriel, nikola, theon, and forte
honestly the worst thing about work is that she can’t just say “i have a family emergency” because no one knows she has a family. so a lot of people think she’s flaky and unreliable when really, she’s just a good mom trying to help her sons take on an alien invasion.
this is somewhat resolved by the end of season one, because josie becomes the new fire chief (something that might have gone to cassandra had she not had to leave work so frequently), and josie knows that cassandra is an alien and that she’s protecting…someone. josie doesn’t know about the turtles completely just yet.
by season three, josie knows everything, and will cut cassandra slack when she says she has an emergency, which helps ease cassandra’s mind a lot once the city is back in order.
fireproof clothing is the norm on capella and it’s easy to find throughout the galaxy simply because there are so many races that can create/manipulate fire or are fireproof themselves, but before cassandra got her hands on a good amount of fireproof clothes, she frequently burned off the sleeves of her shirts by accident. her fire generally starts behind her shoulders and is pushed down her arms, and then out. so eventually cassandra had…no sleeves on her shirts.
now, however, most of her wardrobe is fireproof so she doesn’t have to worry about that anymore.
cassandra undergoes her final inclination shift near the end of ‘winter in the woods.’ the emotions that cassandra has used to power/anchor her inclination are, in this order; rage, guilt, wonder, and love.
after dulcie’s death, her inclination fizzles out for about six months. she feels numb, and therefore has nothing to power her inclination with. when she gets to earth, it’s a little better, but she doesn’t have that strong emotional core that she used to, so she’s relying on passing emotions.
if anything, her powers are loosely tied to her pride, since every time she uses her powers to a greater extent, she’s trying to show off. but she has no…real core to rely on here. and because she’s falling in love with this family, it’d make sense for her to connect her powers to that love.
in later chapters of “winter in the woods,” she uses her powers more and more, and it’s out of a desire to protect, because of that love she has. and once the main plot of witw is over, it’d make so much sense that’d it happen almost subconsciously.
cassandra admits to being afraid to her loved ones fairly easily. she only puts up a tough facade if she’s face to face with an enemy. she’ll admits she is/was scared, then reassure her loved ones that it’s okay if they were scared too. and this is something she got from her mothers- cammilyn would freely admit when she was nervous before a speech, and evelyn was always honest when she was afraid. knowing someone else is scared can help one feel better- knowing that their fears are nothing to be ashamed of, and that even if they’re scared, they can still move forward, and make everything turn out okay

What the Pentagon's new UFO report on humanity reveals
What the Pentagon's new UFO report on humanity reveals
https://theministerofcapitalism.com/blog/what-the-pentagons-new-ufo-report-on-humanity-reveals/
It was perfectly reasonable for the Department of Defense to be concerned that they represented some kind of advanced Soviet technology, so the Air Force launched Project Sign and Project Grudge in 1947 and 1948, respectively, to study UFO sightings between his soldiers. The longest research, Project Blue Book, lasted from 1952 to 1969 and ended with the publication of the Condon report, who concluded that the study of UFOs is unlikely to produce much interest.
Each of these documents has stated that the vast majority of these observations can be traced back to some common object: a bird, an airplane, or a planet, Dorsch says. But a small percentage of encounters have always remained unidentified and the military has promised to continue investigating them. True believers hold these unknowns as potential evidence of visitors from other places.
“The chances of this technology being Russian or Chinese are infinitesimally small,” says Semivan, referring to the objects captured in Navy videos released in recent years. “These things have been flying since the 1940s, and the Russians would have won the Cold War if they had that technology then.”
As he and DeLonge see it, there are really only three options that can explain what people have been seeing over the years: the extraterrestrial, the interdimensional, and the ultra-terrestrial, that is, members of a human civilization lost here on Earth, at Atlantis.
“Or there’s a much more advanced group that we never knew were here,” DeLonge says. “Or they’re going in and out of what we can perceive and they’re using machinery to do that.”
But before heading out for these types of fantasy flights, it might be worth considering that another group of sky observers, astronomers, rarely report seeing unidentified aerial phenomena. “No one would be happier than astronomers if UFOs turned out to be alien spacecraft,” says Andrew Fraknoi, a retired astronomer and member of the Skeptical Research Committee (ITUC), which promotes critical investigation of extraordinary claims. “Imagine getting to talk about astronomy with creatures traveling through the stars.”
When he gives public talks, Fraknoi likes to play with his audience by telling them that he believes in UFOs. “I think there are objects that the average person can’t identify,” he clarifies. “The problem is: can we turn a UFO into an IFO, an identified flying object?”
In his opinion, it is very possible that extraterrestrial beings exist, perhaps even intelligent. Many researchers hope to use probes to investigate potentially habitable places in our solar system with Mars or the moon of Jupiter Europe, to catch a smell of a strange gas on a distant planet that could indicate that it is a living world, as in the recent controversial paper on the possibility of phosphine in Venus.
As a member of the Board of Trustees of the Extraterrestrial Intelligence Research Institute (SETI), Fraknoi also thinks that our observatories may one day accidentally listen to an alien transmission. But each of these scenarios is a far cry from the idea that we are being visited by little green people.
The current mania of UFOs can be traced in many ways to the stars. In 2017, they, along with The New York Times, released the mysterious videos of the United States Navy that sought to capture strange aerial objects, helping to provoke official confirmation from the US military that these videos were real. While a number of people I have tried to discredit such images, other high profile publications, included The New Yorker, subsequently published credulous alien articles, which led members of Congress to include in their December 2020 nmnibus spending legislation and coronavirus legislation a provision ordering the defense department to deliver a UFO report within six months.

Was Spock the first human/Vulcan hybrid?
First contact between humans and Vulcans occurred in 2063. Spock was born in 2230. If you listen to some Star Trek fans, that means 167 years passed before both our species decided to bear some sex fruit. Let’s be real though, 167 years is a long time for two civilizations to interact with each other without at least someone from one group deciding to bone someone from the other group, particularly when you consider the populations of both civilizations numbers in the billions.
We might say, “Maybe interspecies sex was just too big of a taboo! Maybe it took that long for barriers to finally start coming down.” Yeah, maybe. Or maybe it’s like Hagrid once said of Dobby the house elf: “Yeh get weirdos in every breed.” Even if 9,999,999,999 humans thought the idea of having sex with an alien was weird or unnatural, there would always be at least one exceptionally progressive person who could see beyond everyone else’s prejudices and pre-conceived notions, and I’m certain the same is true for Vulcans. I would almost be willing to bet that at least one of the first Vulcans who rolled off the T’Plana-Hath on that April morning in 2063 in Bozeman, Montana saw one of the locals and thought, “That human is aesthetically pleasing.” And all it takes is a spark, right? Besides, who wouldn’t want to hear a Vulcan pickup line?
And all the panties fell off as if by magic.
Moreover, in 1957, 106 years before official First Contact between humans and Vulcans, a small Vulcan survey ship crash-landed near Carbon Creek, Pennsylvania. There were only three survivors, and of those three, one of them just couldn’t stop himself from falling for the single mom who ran the local bar. Granted, Maggie didn’t know Mestral was Vulcan, but he definitely knew she was human, and a trivial thing like species didn’t seem to matter to him.
Smitten personified.
But wait, just because a few amorous, adventurous, or convention-hating humans and Vulcans might be willing to stand up and proudly (or maybe more discreetly) proclaim, “Love is love, fuck the haters” and get naked with each other, that doesn’t mean they were making babies because after all, humans and Vulcans are genetically incompatible and it would take a feat of medical engineering to swap gametes, right?
Argue if you want, but human/Vulcan sexy time dates back to at least 2153.
People who believe Spock must have been the first hybrid usually stake this claim on one or more of four arguments:
1. Humans and Vulcans didn’t shack up routinely enough 2. The science of making a hybrid baby didn’t exist until Spock came along 3. Gene Roddenberry said so 4. Spock clearly felt isolated as a child, but he wouldn’t have if there were more hybrids like him
I’ve already poked enough holes in the first claim. Maybe there weren’t a ton of interspecies couples, but I feel confident in saying there were at least some and some is all we need. And once people decide they like each other enough to form relationships, it’s usually not long before at least some of them start thinking, “You know what would make this better? A smaller version of us!”
As for the science behind making a hybrid baby, it existed in the mid 22nd century. Spock wasn’t the first. That’s a fact. Elizabeth, the hybrid child of Charles “Trip” Tucker and T’Pol, existed in 2154.
Pointy ears and pinchable cheeks.
Elizabeth sadly died as a result of the improper cloning techniques used to conceive her, so there are many who would take the statement of “Spock was the first human/Vulcan hybrid” and simply add the caveat of “to survive.” Perhaps. But in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode “Terra Prime,” Trip says:
I spoke with Phlox. It turns out there was a flaw in the technique that Paxton’s doctors used in the cloning process. Human DNA and Vulcan DNA, Phlox says there’s no medical reason why they can’t combine. So if a Vulcan and a human ever decided to have a child, it’s probably be ok. And that’s sort of comforting.
So a Denobulan doctor knew a way to make hybrids a full 75 years before Spock was conceived. Maybe the technology was untested and required some refining, but by even a modern a technological timeline, 75 years is an eternity.
There’s an interview between Gene Roddenberry and Mark Lenard which claims Spock was the first, and so a lot of people might be happy to believe whatever Roddenberry said was the gospel. In the interview, Roddenberry is interviewing Mark Lenard as Ambassador Sarek, asking him questions about humanity and his life when the subject of Spock comes up.
Mark Lenard: Spock’s mother Amanda is an extraordinary woman. Gene Roddenberry: And Spock was the result? The first human/Vulcan mixture? Mark Lenard: No, not the first, but the first to survive. As you must know, an Earth/Vulcan conception will abort during the end of the first month; the fetus is unable to continue life once it begins to develop its primary organs. The fetus Spock was removed from Amanda’s body at this time: the first such experiment ever attempted. His tiny form resided in a test tube for the following two Earth months while our physicians performed delicate chemical engineering, introducing over a 100 subtle changes we hoped would sustain life. At the end of this time, the fetus was returned to Amanda’s womb. At the ninth Earth month, the tiny form was again removed from Amanda, prematurely by Vulcan standards, and spent the following four months of Vulcan term pregnancy in a specially designed incubator. The infant Spock proved surprisingly resilient. There seemed to be something about the Earth/Vulcan mixture which created in that tiny body the fierce determination to survive.
So for some fans, maybe that counts as proof. But Gene Roddenberry had a lot of conceptual ideas about his beloved Star Trek that conflict with actual canon and modern science. For a prime example, just look at the treatment of star dates. So maybe it’s me, but I don’t think something is canon just because Roddenberry said it in an interview once. Furthermore, if we take that interview as canon, how do we explain this scene from The Final Frontier where Spock is delivered from Amanda (not a “specially designed incubator”) and presented to Sarek?
Then Sarek went and uttered one of the most dick lines in Trek history.
Lastly, there’s the isolation that Spock feels. How can we explain how lonely he is if it’s not because he’s the only hybrid? Quite easily, actually. Every single person in existence has felt misunderstood and alone at times. As children, our worlds are very small and our social circles consist of our immediate families, school mates, and our parents’ associates. That’s pretty much it. When we aren’t exposed to people like us, it’s very easy to imagine Rocket Raccoon might have been onto something when he said, “Ain’t no thing like me, except me!”
But that’s very rarely literally true, as every kid who’s ever been the only minority at their school or any teen who’s ever been the only gay person in their tiny conservative town will tell you. As we get older and achieve the freedom to strike out and meet people on our own terms, we often learn we weren’t quite as unique as we thought and there are whole groups of people out there who are black or gay or disabled or whatever it was that left us feeling so alone in our formative years. I think that’s why Spock’s character resonated so much with viewers – he was a symbol for all the misfits out there who knew just how much it sucks trying to fit into the fabric of a society that seems so different than they are.
Proof that regardless of species, kids can be fucking awful.
Vulcan was a big planet. By the time Nero destroyed it in Star Trek: 2009, it had more than 6 billion inhabitants. Even if there were only 100 human/Vulcan hybrids by that point in time, the odds of an average Vulcan encountering one would still be incredibly small. It’s entirely possible Spock may have felt like he was the only hybrid because he might have been the only one in his community, but the universe is a big place with plenty of room for other human/Vulcan hybrids he and those vicious bullies never met.
Spock was clearly pretty special. Even people who hate Star Trek and know almost nothing about it know who Spock was and recognize the Vulcan salute Leonard Nimoy made famous in his portrayal of the character. But just because Spock’s human ancestry made him unusual doesn’t necessarily mean his conception was some completely novel, groundbreaking, pioneering leap for interspecies relationships either.
I can’t say I know many Vulcans, but I think I have a pretty firm grasp on humanity. Despite homosexual, interracial, and interfaith relationships being taboo and even illegal in many countries until relatively recently (and sadly still are in some places) there have always been people who decided they didn’t care and took a chance on love. So I don’t buy the idea that humans and Vulcans could live and work together even in a limited capacity for more than a century and a half before making the jump into starting families.

Want new-and-exciting plots for your character? Long to reach out to more of your followers, but don’t know where to start? Fear not! Fill out this form and give your RP partners both present and future all the of juicy jumping off points they need to help you get your characters acquainted.
Be sure to tag the players whose characters YOU want more cues to interact with, and repost, don’t reblog! Feel free to add or remove sections as you see fit. Template here.
Mun name: I go by Star or Starfire online. If we’re close, I might give you my real name upon asking - but if I do, please don’t ‘openly’ call me by it for others to see on this site. I’m very hesistant about RL things like that. OOC Contact: IMs and Asks are always open (and IMs are always OOC, I don’t do IC IMs), I also have Discord. I’m not giving out my Discord to everyone though, so please forgive me if I decline when you ask for it. Again I don’t do IC on Discord. As for plotting purposes or things like that, I think IMs would work the best.
Who the heck is my muse anyway:
For a long time already, Galfore has been in a high position on the planet of Tamaran. Protector and advisor for the previous ruler and his wife; then the caretaker of their children, and after recent happenings he now has even recieved the crown. Probably either imposing or intimidating at first due to his bulky build, large size and initially usually gruffly attitude, Galfore is friendly below that. Wise, experienced, and always concerned about the well-being of his planet or his bumgorfs, he is a warm, protective and caring person once opened up to you. But since he’s also very tamaranean, if provoked enough, he can be a devastating force to mess with.
Points of interest:
The first thing anyone would notice is his size. He is taller than many tamaraneans are, and has a much bulkier build as well, all of which was part of a natural, but rare, process during the normal second transformation any tamaranean goes through. What isn’t natural or common for tamaraneans, though, is hig right eye, and the scar he has over it. The pupile of the eye looks like nothing more than a shallow ring anymore, which is a thing to easily take note of when looking at his face. Galfore has long, large hair, all of it behind him though, save for his equally big beard. He can fly, assimilate languages through lip-contact, has superhuman strength, can withstand many difficult circumstances (like the vastness of space, and he doesn’t feel hot or cold unless in that environment for very long or in certain emotional states), and he has a kind of energy that is commonly referred to as ‘starbolts’ which he can use in various ways to attack others. Galfore may be a little louder than the average human. He acts upon what he thinks or feels and tends to not hide his opinions.
What they’ve been up to recently:
I don’t really do much in likes of story lines on this blog, so nothing. He’s ruling Tamaran and does his best to do all he can to make the planet and its people thrive and be well.
Where to find them:
Usually on Tamaran, and 95% of the time there in the castle. Rarely, he’s also travelling to Earth to meet Starfire or Wildfire, and during those travels he might also do a little detour to explore some place of Earth by himself.
Current plans:
As stated above, I don’t really do big story lines or such. I had an AU thing once that I had running basically as a sort-of ‘event’ (Blackfire’s Final Trial was how I called it, searching for it will probably show you more info - or you need to ask me), and while similar might happen again if I ever get that spark of an idea again, nothing is really planned at the moment.
Desired interactions:
I think having him face someone with mean intentions could be interesting. Either in a way of Galfore coming to free Starfire/Blackfire/Wildfire after they had been taken by someone, or maybe he himself ends up in a situation. People showing him more customs of Earth. Also: My younger!Galfore verse! I’d really like to explore his character in his younger years some more.
To also name some specific character/s I’d really like to interact with: Okay, I feel like I mention her on every single blog of mine (not true though, Moonshot and Starlight won’t have her), but, Mar’i! Just imagine. It’d be adorable no doubt. There’s also a 1 on 1 talk he’d like to have with Robin if we go with RobStar. I think it would also be interesting to have him meet Batman. I can’t think of anyone else to mention here!
Offered interactions:
He is the ruler of Tamaran, so anyone coming to the planet might (after encounters with at least some guards) have a chance for a talk to him. Or land in prison, which he occasionally checks the prisoners of, too. For those times that he does visit Earth, there’s always the option to teach him something, or if your muse isn’t exactly a main-Titan they could always assume he’s a potential threat if the situation seems like it.
Current open post/s:
Open Starters here and Memes here! Both are always open, regardless of already-existing replies to it or “age” of the thing, and you’re free to answer or send in something older too! There’s no expiration date on my things!
Anything else?:
This is a Sideblog of Starfirechan. I live in germany which sadly causes me to miss out many great things when they happen on the dash. I tend to read all that is on my dash once I’m awake again, but I don’t feel brave enough for reacting to anything that might have happened hours ago. Oh, I’m also as shy as can be, or maybe even shy-er than that. I do try to change this and everyday tell myself to go and approach someone or send in things to others, but that’s hard and quite often it doesn’t happen. I do have Wire-accounts for my muses, and you can either search for them on my blog or ask me about them, but I don’t know if I could/will ever do any good on those.
Tagging: Anyone that took the time to read this!

IMPORTANT CASSANDRA HEADCANONS
cassandra’s education
alright so, since capella fell into a civil war when cassandra was 11, that’s kind of when she stopped going to school. ioavis was such a volatile time in her life as well- and forte and theon didn’t know shit about teaching a kid (beyond their respective professions). thea helped cassandra a little bit, but cassandra’s training as an augur came first.
it was only after cassandra had landed on pyrrah and met keandra again that she resumed any type formal education. while trying to read capellan texts on her inclination, cassandra realized just how poor her reading skills were. keandra tutored cassandra- honestly, he was the only one she would trust to help her. cassandra hates more than anything feeling st*pid, and would only let keandra see her that vulnerable.
cassandra learned enough math and science to maintain and fly her ship, and studied the history of many different planets- she only has a shallow knowledge of each one, since she was aiming to learn about as many as possible. cassandra also seriously resumed her studies in astrography that her grandmother had gotten her started on.
now cassandra has an above average reading level in capellan, and average reading levels in standard and english, and a very basic reading level in french.
her last name
‘cassandra capella’ is what the universe calls her- a shortened version of ‘cassandra the capellan’. cassandra capella is the mythic heroine…not who cassandra actually is. ‘cassandra lyn’ is the name cassandra chose for herself when going to earth- i know this doesn’t match up with “hello, clairvoyant?”- that’s another thing i’ll change when/if i revise it.
cassandra & crying
alright so- at about age..14 or 15, cassandra stopped crying. cassandra’s time on ioavis was marked by constant high levels of stress, and for about ten years, when faced with something tragic or something that would make her cry, instead she would just shut down. in addition to just high stress, theon was…kind of an asshole. forte and theon both were. you know that one scene in “a league of their own” where tom hanks’ character yells at one of the players and says “there’s no crying in baseball!” yeah, theon and cassandra had a similar encounter. this idea of crying being a weakness was something theon instilled in her.
cassandra did not cry after forte’s death, instead she just went numb. she didn’t speak, she didn’t eat- once she started feeling again, she turned all that grief into anger, and that’s pretty much what got her through the rest of her time on ioavis- just running off anger.
after leaving ioavis, cassandra went to train with thea, and it could not have come at a better time. thea helped cassandra work through her issues- she still struggles with depression, along with enormous amounts of survivors guilt, but thea helped her learn how to cope with it all.
but cassandra didn’t really break down and cry until she saw keandra again. cassandra was overfilled with joy and relief- she wasn’t the last capellan! she wasn’t all alone in the universe. cassandra and keandra both cried for a good twenty minutes, and that’s kind of the turning point for cassandra. when she needs to, she cries. she’ll usually do it in private, or with paola comforting her, but…she’s moved past that mentality of “conceal don’t feel”
putting on a front
see, cassandra might seem like she’s careless with fire- when she’s around people who know about her, she does use it pretty freely. but…she’s got an insane amount of control over it. the fact that she is able to use her powers so nonchalantly is a testament to how many hours she’s put into honing her inclination. she never starts a fire she can’t put out or one that will hurt someone unintentionally.
cassandra, in general, cultivates this reputation of being carefree and just…chill but almost in a bad way. she also acts kinda…airheaded at times too. like, oh she’s so flippant and clueless, she can’t possibly be dangerous. she wants her enemies to underestimate her.
…but when a friend calls into question her control or competence, cassandra gets very hurt. she is more than she appears to be, and she has put in so much time and energy honing her inclination and her clairvoyance- to have that insulted, however mildly, gets cassandra very upset.
cassandra & silence
after the fall of capella, cassandra couldn’t stand how silent her ship was- which seemed huge and sterile to a traumatized twelve year old. so she turned to music to fill that void. now…capellans have a slightly different view of music that humans simply because music is just…talking? or at the very least, instrumental music can be used to convey ideas and emotions. so it was less…music music and more of just background chatter.
when atlas was destroyed and dulcie died, cassandra was completely overwhelmed by the silence, both in her head, since she had gotten so used to atlas’ presence, and…in her life. paola was still there but nothing was the same. so, again, cassandra turned to music. now that her perception of music has changed from simply talking to this emotional outlet, it meant more i think?
when cassandra gets to earth, she’s that neighbor that always has her music too loud and while she always apologizes…she rarely changes it for long. its?? a huge coping mechanism but she’s rarely comfortable enough with someone to actually say that.
this is why cassandra takes immense joy in how loud her family is. she isn’t bothered in the slightest and will?? never police them on their volume. her fear of silence does start to lessen, but it never goes away. and she’s honestly just developed a love?? of noise because of it.

In ancient times, the Earth had visitors.
They are benign, filled with enough curiosity to motivate them to travel halfway across the galaxy to visit the first new lifeforms they had discovered in over 10,000 years. In their excitement, they forget to calculate variables; important variables that are a matter of life and death. Sometimes in the pursuit of science, one’s own mortality is not first on the priority list, you see. But these creatures are clever, and live by their spontaneity, and have developed multiple travel available failsafes.
Their spacecrafts are moveable laboratories, filled with more technological advancement than the human mind could ever hope to fathom. And on their way to Earth, a planet that to them is simply X-79 (a fantastic coordinate), they point their computers toward it, analyzing it for things like atmospheric chemicals, soil density, and water presence.
While their machines do the work, the explorers on board (three in total) pour over the initial data: a simple picture of a scruffy bipedal creature in a field. There’s hope that there’s more than one. Many times they had gone on these long missions, only to find that the last of the species had died out before they got there. An average travel time of twenty years could do that sometimes.
A plus is if they’re sentient. It’s not important, though. These creatures are simply fascinated by the idea of /life/. Even after the hundredth time, it feels like the first - over a billion years ago - when they encountered their first otherworldly being. And even though they were now part of a thriving trade network with millions of other star systems, it was starting to feel incredibly lonely, thinking that the Universe had met its finite state and there was nothing else of interest. But the Universe was full of wonders, one of which was its ability to hide wonderful things deep inside its belly.
They go over the new data daily, gleefully filing away tidbits of information for trivial purposes. When the days comes, when they finally break atmosphere, they know enough about the planet to know that they don’t need space suits, for once. Their scaly skin dries up on most planets, but this sun seems especially kind toward reptiles.
As they bask in the novelty of sunning on a foreign planet, their skin turn a litany of colors, starting with red and ending with ones not on the visible spectrum. Their tails wags, and their large eyes dart around the plant life swaying between their toes and above their heads. Of course, they knew about all this before they landed, but there’s something incredibly enchanting about experiencing something in the flesh.
Eventually, a drone reminds them of their task at hand, it’s quiet beeping reminding them that there’s much more for this planet to offer. The drone continues on its task; primitive in its own way, not really capable of speech nor intelligent thought, but two thirds of the party can still register cool annoyance from it.
“Always business with this one,” snickers the youngest member, Yon, one who isn’t used to the non-sentient drones and had a soft spot for this one in particular. The drone makes sweeping motions with its stunted arms, cataloging all the creatures captured in its red stare. It’s technically only looking for one in particular, but it’s still good information to have.
“Well, I guess that’s why he’s the best the Council could grant us,” says the most experienced explorer, Drita. It's true, the little drone is the best ever made, mainly because of its simplicity.
They walk for a stretch of time, the sun moving slowly through the sky. It’s off for them to see only one star, and if it wasn’t for their careful research, they would be tempted to risk retinal damage to search for another. It’s nearly gone by the time they stumble on an outcropping, in which the excited beeping of their drone goes erratic, flashing a blinding blue light in rapid succession that frightens their new discovery.
As the creatures huddle together, sharp objects poised in their hands, the lead scientist, Vilk, makes her way to the drone to dismiss it. A readout prints from the thin line that mimics a mouth. She takes it, but doesn’t read it, too busy making placating gestures with her hands. The drone makes a clicking noise, it’s eyes returning to it’s standby green before heeling next to the youngest.
“Sorry about that, we didn’t mean to startle you.” The creatures don’t seem placated, but instead one of them tries to swipe at her. It’s only her forcefield that protects her from taking damage. She recoils regardless, and regroups a few steps back with the others.
Drita is non-plussed. She takes the readings from Vilk’s lax hand, scanning them lightly. The basics she knows. The graph that shows the possible growth patterns, the pie chart that details their diet, and the oddest little chart she had ever seen at the very bottom. Yon leans over her shoulder, brow furrowing as he reads them over, only able to get the gist of what it says.
Drita wants to ask Vilk what this means, but the creatures have started screaming and Vilk seems shaken for some reason. This is neither of them’s first time, and attacking creatures was not exactly something novel. Perhaps such a long time away from new discoveries has softened Vilk. She gestures for them to retreat, if only to not stress the creatures even more.
“Primitive,” Yon comments on their way back to their ship. “But their use of tools has to denote some sort of intelligence, right?”
Vilk manages to shake off her stupor enough to nod her head. “Yes, and they’re obviously social. I saw some young ones with them. Possibly even some sort of writing on the walls.”
She reaches for the paper, which confirms most of what she already figured out, but her eyes light up upon reaching the bottom. “Do you know what this is?”
“Not really,” says Drita. “Must be a recent update. Wasn’t around the last time I went on a mission.”
Yon shrugs. “Hey, this is my first time on a real outing.”
“This is meant to project their potential. It’s based on everything; evolutionary patterns, environmental factors, current progress, everything! See these bars?” She points to the six individual bars lining the bottom of the chart. “These represent progress in a hundred year intervals. According to this, there’s some pretty considerable growth expected each century.”
Drita took the scan back, taking a closer look at the extending bars, noting the significant jumps in scale between each one. “This seems like a pretty young species too. Looks like we’re witnessing the birth of an intelligent life form, my friends.”
“That’s never been heard of!” Yon took the paper excitedly, gleefully reading the data. “This is amazing! Just think of what this will mean for everyone back home.”

name
so, capellans don’t have last names at all- instead they have core names and family suffixes. cassandra’s family suffix is -lyn, however, after the destruction of capella, cassandra chose to take on the -ndra suffix again
-ndra is the orphan’s suffix, but more specifically…its the suffix of the unwanted. only children who are given up at birth, are completely disowned from the family, or choose to cut ALL ties to their families have this suffix.
since cassandra was given up at birth, her names have been
cassandra -> cassalyn -> cassandra
her core name is cassa, and it’s considered very rude to call a capellan by their core name unless they have given explicit permission for you to do so. in addition- cassandra CANNOT STAND the nickname cassie, since that’s what her name would have been if dulcie and her had gotten married, and what dulcie used to call cassandra when they were engaged.
tl;dr: don’t call her cass and DEFINITELY don’t call her cassie
the herald
note: the reasoning for cassandra’s ability to see others’ future’s is different from the reason given in “hello, clairvoyant? humanoid rat speaking.” this is the official “canon” reasoning, and the fic will be changed to match this, should i ever rewrite it.
every augur is given a mask by thea- ones that she makes years before the augur in question is even born. they help the augur see more than what they normally would- they amplify an augur’s abilities. however, because no two augurs see the same things, each mask is tailor made for their particular brand of clairvoyance. using a different augur’s mask will give them the sight of that augur, but it will also induce intense nausea and headaches.
cassandra had taken back her grandmother’s mask from oddfrid, the woman who killed her, and held onto it, since her grandmother had no grave to place it at. she used the mask out of curiosity, and found that she could see other people’s futures- however she had no control over who’s future she saw. her visions were usually restricted to the planet she was on, and along with those visions, she was given the knowledge of how to get in contact with those people.
this was how raelyn’s clairvoyance worked. she could see the future of random people, and with those visions she knew how to influence their future. after all, that’s what being an augur’s all about- actively shaping the future by knowing what’s ahead.
when cassandra finally go to earth and settled down, she decided not to become some grand superhero. she was going to, for once, try to be normal. however…cassandra quickly got bored, and wondered if there was something she should be doing- something to help people more than she already was as a firefighter.
it was then that she decided to use her grandmother’s mask again, and peer into the future’s of others. with her visions came the phone numbers of those she saw, and it became clear how cassandra could use this power to help others.
whenever cassandra could, she’d put on her grandmother’s mask and then call people, warning them of disaster and trying to steer them away from tragedy. she quickly became an urban legend, and people started calling her “the herald.” the more and more she called to help, the more and more popular the herald became, until everyone wanted to know if she was real, and if she was, who was she?
cassandra hated the title of “the herald”, but it wasn’t like she could come forward and say anything. as previously stated, wearing her grandmother’s mask gives cassandra intense headaches and nausea, thus preventing her from using the mask on a regular basis.

when cassandra gets to earth, she’s that neighbor that always has her music too loud and while she always apologizes…she rarely changes it for long. it's a huge coping mechanism but she’s rarely comfortable enough with someone to actually say that.
this is why cassandra takes immense joy in how loud her family is. she isn’t bothered in the slightest and will?? never police them on their volume. her fear of silence does start to lessen, but it never goes away. and she’s honestly just developed a love?? of noise because of it.
cassandra in the lone rat au
cassandra fighting the kraang in @ratdad-ninjutsumaster‘s lone rat au is LITERALLY IOAVIS ALL OVER AGAIN
let me explain. the reason cassandra got involved in the revolution in the first place was because she was desperate to prove her worth…to herself, honestly. she thought if she could help people and do this huge act and help overthrow the government, that meant she was worth something. if she could do good, and help people…to her, that meant her life had value.
ioavis came after a few short weeks of travel through space after the fall of capella- cassandra was feeling extreme guilt over what happened, and felt like she had no value. that it would have been better for everyone if she’d died in the snow when she was a child. so a chance to do good on such a large scale? sign her the fuck up. a role that only she could fill as the (supposed) last living capellan? even better.
now, flash forward to after dulcie’s death. cassandra never once blamed dulcie for what happened with atlas- the ONLY person she kinda sort maybe shared the blame with was keandra, in that he thought of it, and cassandra carried it out (’with dulcie’ written in a tiny font in a footnote).
so cassandra took on all the blame for freeing atlas…and dulcie died fixing cassandra (’and dulcie’s’ scribbled in the margins)’s mistake. what’s even worse? cassandra could do fucking nothing to help them. she was powerless to against atlas- she could hold her back, but couldn’t rid herself of the monster.
so…after that, cassandra is pretty much back to where she was at the fall of capella, mental state wise. it’s maybe three years after dulcie’s death and cassandra’s arrival on earth, and while she does have a much better support system in place (ie, paola), she’s still…trying to prove to herself that she has value.
now, in most verses, cassandra takes on the role of herald, the events of ‘hello clairvoyant’ take place, and her friendship with splinter, and later role as mother to the turtles in her mind, gives her value.
in this verse? cassandra stumbles onto the kraang, and finds herself…in a position to do huge acts (stopping this invading force)….with a role that few others can fill (a ‘superpowered’ being with knowledge of alien worlds and years of fighting under her belt- honestly, she’s one of the most qualified beings on earth to fight the kraang at this point)…
and without her role as herald and her friendship with splinter/role as mother? she fucking JUMPS at that chance. she throws herself into danger, tries to save the world and be a hero to prove that she has worth, that her life is worth living.
cassandra’s temper
cassandra very rarely loses her temper honestly?? she’s not the yelling and screaming type unless it’s with someone she cares deeply about - the two obvious (and mostly likely) ones paola and splinter. when cassandra gets angry, she’s far more prone to storming away and sulking than yelling, so that she can recollect herself and not say something that she’ll regret.
when does lose her temper and gets extremely angry, she starts crying. but she hates this, and if you back down because she’s crying, it’ll only make her angrier.
and in an argument, she’s far more likely to wear a poker face and map out the conversation via her clairvoyance. again, only paola and splinter really see her get worked up in the moment and just keep barreling through the argument whilst angry.
cassandra’s enemies
so the first should be obvious: any capellan that finds out cassandra was one of the people who unleashed atlas. not everyone’s gonna be as understanding as vivi, and there are a lot of capellans that would do anything to have someone to pin all the blame on.
second of all: leftover members of a cult that kills augurs. winfrid was killed by them, and cassandra was nearly killed by a member of that cult too. it took all of her allies (keandra, paola, jayjay, owl, and brooklyn) to protect her while she was. you know recovering.
third: okay so while cassandra was on pyrrah there was an attempted coup?? and of course because cassandra was bffs with the queen and keandra was the queen’s little brother they helped stop it. so idk if people are still mad about that they might come after her.
and finally- here’s the big one, because this. is actually going to happen when i rewrite season one: we’re gonna call the scientist who created jayjay and owl dr. h. cassandra left dr. h’s fate in the hands of jayjay and owl, and they decided to have her be put on trial and thrown in jail, for reasons that i will discuss when i talk about jayjay and owl. one of dr. h’s allies comes after cassandra for revenge or as part of some scheme she has with dr. h. i won’t say what exactly happens, but. it’s not good for cassandra.
but yeah, those are the people/enemies that might come after cassandra
gravity sickness
okay so, because earth’s gravity is so much weaker than capella’s, cassandra will wake up some nights, usually disoriented by her visions, and feel almost completely weightless- like she’s just going to fly off the surface of the earth. this is a terrifying experience for cassandra- despite the fact that she loves floating in her ship’s gravity chamber, the feeling like she’s going to fly right off the earth is so scary because she has no control over it.
if she’s sleeping alone, she’ll grab the edges of the mattress, as if trying to keep herself from flying away. if she’s with splinter, she’ll usually accidentally wake him up when she wakes up, and ask him to either hold her or lay on her. the feeling of his arms holding her tightly or the weight of his body on top of her makes her feel grounded. he’ll usually whisper affirmations to her (”you’re safe, you’re alright, this is real, i’m here, nothing’s going to harm you”) until she relaxes enough to fall back asleep.
does cassandra get jealous?
it depends, really. cassandra tends to get sad jealous rather than angry jealous (’oh, of course they don’t love me, who could love someone like me, they’ll be happier with them, etc etc). and it does take quite a bit to get her to despair like that: if her s/o is just hanging out with someone else or someone’s flirting with them, and she feels secure in their relationship, she’s fine with it. they can take care of themselves (usually).
however she DOES get angry jealous in amnesiac!splinter verse, because they AREN’T together, and she’s terrified that he’ll fall in love when he has amnesia, and when he gets his memories back, he’ll love that other person more than her.
how does cassandra grieve?
she’ll isolate herself, mostly, and usually go from surrounding herself with things that remind her of/belonged to the person she’s grieving to getting as far away from anything that reminds her of them as possible.
(in verses where splinter dies, this would mean that cassandra goes from staying locked in splinter’s room for days, only to alternate to staying in her apartment for days on end)
cassandra will rarely speak and rarely eat, and honestly the only who can get her to take care of herself is paola.
i keep saying that in these situation it’s only paola who can get cassandra to take care of herself, and that’s mostly because paola knows how cassandra grieves and how to deal with it. cassandra was practically lifeless after dulcie’s death, and while paola helped take care of cassandra during this time, it was only the revelation of what the yellow flowers in cassandra’s dreams were and actually going to earth that put some life back into cassandra’s eyes.
i would argue that dulcie’s death was the lowest point of cassandra’s life, and that remains constant- even in most aus. cassandra felt closed off from the rest of the galaxy, despite keandra and brooklyn staying around her. but it…it was this distant thing. not the comfort cassandra needed, you know?
in verses where splinter dies, cassandra does have her family and she does get out of bed and takes care of herself better than she does after dulcie. she has her family to live for.
cassandra adjusting to life on earth
the thing about adjusting to earth’s climate is that everything that’s different from capella was a million times worse on pyrrah.
it was so much hotter on pyrrah than it is on earth, and definitely than it was on capella. so cassandra eventually got used to that.
as for culture…cassandra lived in france for the first…two years? i think it was? maybe three- on earth, and cassandra had done a lot of research on earth in general, but especially on france, in the two months it took her to get there. i haven’t really thought much about her time in france- that’s something i need to work on tbh
cassandra doesn’t understand american politics at all. on capella there was lot more involvement in politics and everyone was critical of it- especially because of the ‘capellan cycle’, where a government would exist on capella for a few centuries before being overthrown and replaced for a few more centuries. so especially for cassandra, who was the daughter of a political thinker and revolutionary, and a capellan who grew up at the end of the current government’s cycle, she grew up very critical of authority and very aware of what was going on in the government. so the way americans know they’re unhappy with their government, but always know exactly what’s wrong with it or how to fix it, and are at times unwilling to put in the effort to change it…doesn’t make sense to cassandra
another thing cassandra doesn’t understand is like…consumerism. like this culture of constantly buying more, or espECIALLY things being made to be broken and replaced. for most of capella’s history resources were scarce, so shit had to be built to last for a LONG time. and this mindset never went away, even when capella began trading with other planets. so cassandra’s just ???? at how everything on earth is made to be replaced.
cassandra & drowning
cassandra is terrified of drowning. like…shoot her, stab her, let her pass away from sickness or old age…just don’t drown her or suffocate her.
i’d imagine her fear comes from actually having visions in her sleep of her drowning, and then there was the time she actually almost drowned. it happened when brooklyn was with her, and her leg got caught in sinking wreckage of a ship they were on. it was easily one of the top five most terrifying experiences of cassandra’s life
the day capella fell
cassandra always gets very solemn and quiet on the day capella fell, lost in her own thoughts and guilt, and she usually reaches out to keandra (and to a lesser extent, brooklyn) on that day because they’re all in bad places on that day.
also consider- everyone knowing this is a bad day for cassandra and doing their best to make her smile in their own ways. everyone gives her 100x more hugs and makes sure she knows that they love her
what cassandra did for money during her travels
it should be noted that before getting to pyrrah, with the exception of her time without her ship on ioavis, cassandra pretty much lived off of the food stored in her capellan caravel. usually these foods are dehydrated to make them last longer, and while they’re not…especially tasty, there was enough on the ship for 50+ people to live on for one year. so cassandra really had no need for money, since capellan ships don’t use fuel like earth ships do, and there were uniforms on board for clothing.
however, most of the clothing was far too big for cassandra, who was very short by capellan standards when she was a child, and this was the primary reason she learned how to sew- so she could make adjustments so she wasn’t tripping over her pants at the very least.
when on pyrrah, cassandra began an apprenticeship under a ship mechanic, and after a year cassandra was offered a job there. at the time, she was living with the royal family, so again…she pretty got whatever she needed, and all the money she made was saved up.
later on, after leaving pyrrah and parting ways with keandra, cassandra began to take up work as a translator, working with countless universities and libraries across the galaxy and translating thousands of audio files, all recorded in capellan.
while it is possible to understand capellan without knowing the meaning of the way it’s sung, a lot of subtle details are lost that way. so cassandra’s knowledge of the capellan language was sought after by many, especially since she’s thought to be one of the last two capellans left.
working as a translator also allowed cassandra to work while still traveling- having any and all files that needed translation sent to her ship.

work & josie
honestly the worst thing about work is that she can’t just say “i have a family emergency” because no one knows she has a family. so a lot of people think she’s flaky and unreliable when really, she’s just a good mom trying to help her sons take on an alien invasion.
this is somewhat resolved by the end of season one, because josie becomes the new fire chief (something that might have gone to cassandra had she not had to leave work so frequently), and josie knows that cassandra is an alien and that she’s protecting…someone. josie doesn’t know about the turtles completely just yet.
by season three, josie knows everything, and will cut cassandra slack when she says she has an emergency, which helps ease cassandra’s mind a lot once the city is back in order.
fireproof clothing
fireproof clothing is the norm on capella and it’s easy to find throughout the galaxy simply because there are so many races that can create/manipulate fire or are fireproof themselves, but before cassandra got her hands on a good amount of fireproof clothes, she frequently burned off the sleeves of her shirts by accident. her fire generally starts behind her shoulders and is pushed down her arms, and then out. so eventually cassandra had…no sleeves on her shirts.
now, however, most of her wardrobe is fireproof so she doesn’t have to worry about that anymore.
final inclination shift
cassandra undergoes her final inclination shift near the end of ‘winter in the woods.’ the emotions that cassandra has used to power/anchor her inclination are, in this order; rage, guilt, wonder, and love.
after dulcie’s death, her inclination fizzles out for about six months. she feels numb, and therefore has nothing to power her inclination with. when she gets to earth, it’s a little better, but she doesn’t have that strong emotional core that she used to, so she’s relying on passing emotions.
if anything, her powers are loosely tied to her pride, since every time she uses her powers to a greater extent, she’s trying to show off. but she has no…real core to rely on here. and because she’s falling in love with this family, it’d make sense for her to connect her powers to that love.
in later chapters of “winter in the woods,” she uses her powers more and more, and it’s out of a desire to protect, because of that love she has. and once the main plot of witw is over, it’d make so much sense that’d it happen almost subconsciously.
